Accomodation
One of the most important things you will have to organise before you can start with your studies is to find a room or an apartment. You have several possibilities to find accommodation.
The Studentenwerk (Student Servidces) offers rooms in residence halls for reasonable prices (starting at 210 €) in Giessen and Friedberg. However, many students apply for such a room. Therefore it is likely that you do not get a room at the first semester, but have to wait one or two semesters.
Together with the Studentenwerk and the Akademisches Auslandsamt of the JLU Giessen we compiled a brochure about Housing in Giessen and Friedberg which you can find here .
For further information and application forms please contact the accommodation office at the:

There are many possibilities for living outside a residence hall of the Studentenwerk. Shared apartments are very popular with students. Many landlords also offer single room apartments. If you need a room for one or two semester there is also the possibility of a "Zwischenmiete". Students who spend sometime outside of town (i.e. for exchange studies abroad) rent out their rooms for a limited period of time. There are also private residence halls in Gießen.
The local newspapers and magazines are the best addresses to find a shared apartment, a single apartment, a private residence hall or a "Zwischenmiete":
Giessen:
Giessener Express
Giessener Anzeiger
Giessener Allgemeine
Friedberg:
Wetterauer Zeitung
At the Student Union (ASTA) in Giessen (Wiesenstr. 14, building I) you can find a message board with lists of free apartments and rooms.
