Short Description
The module gives an overview over the architecture, functionality and programming of contemporary industrial automation, control and communication systems.
Learning Objectives

After successful completition of the course the students should have an advanced knowledge on the following subjects:

  • Architecture, structure, functionality and programming of contemporary programmable logic controllers (PLCs) according to IEC 61131 and IEC 61499.
  • Principals and functionality of industrial communication systems.
  • Principals and functionality of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA).

They are able to deal with the tasks of the practical within a team and present the results.

Contents
  • Examples of contemporary industrial automation and control systems.
  • Programming of programmable logic controllers according to IEC 61131.
  • Distributed control systems according to IEC 61499.
  • Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA).
  • Man machine interaction and visualization.
  • Industrial communication systems and protocols, actuator-sensor-interface and fieldbuses.
