_js_0024.jpgThe participants will learn how to assess a foreign country’s investment climate from the perspective of a multinational enterprise. To this extent, they will be made familiar with the basic tools of socio-economic country analysis and country risk assessments, applied to emerging market economies. They shall learn to apply different criteria to evaluate internal and external macroeconomic stability and to enter their findings into a classical return on capital analysis.

  • short introduction to macroeconomics
  • typical risk features of emerging market economies stemming from macroeconomic instability and inadequate monetary and fiscal policy actions
  • structural weaknesses on capital, goods and labor markets and government intervention
  • public sector budget deficits and/or balance of payments problems
  • restrictive foreign trade, direct investment and/or exchange rate policies
  • risks associated with legal, institutional/administrative and political environment
  • the role and responsibilities of international organisations such as IMF, World Bank, etc.
