Under "Loan Account" you will find your loan account with your personal details, your loans and any fees.
You also have the option of saving Search and creating watch lists. In order to save Search or search hits, you must log in - either via "Loan account" in the menu bar at the top or via the "Loan account" tab. It is best to do this in advance, as your loans will be displayed after you have logged in and you may have to repeat the search or call up the "Search history".
Tips for searching in THMfind
General
The hit lists are sorted by relevance based on the search terms you entered. The following applies to the catalogue: Hits are more relevant if they appear in the title and/or author than if they appear in the publisher or table of contents. If your search does not deliver the desired hits, please change your search query.
You can sort the hit list: descending by date, ascending by date; in the catalog also by author and title.
You can also restrict the hit list using various filters such as media type, language and year of publication.
Selection of search terms
You can search with any number of search terms. However, your hit list will be more precise if only meaningful terms are used. Articles, prepositions and the like are not necessary.
Example
Enter in the simple search line:
(1) The development of the health care system in Germany = 1775 hits
(2) Development of healthcare in Germany = 79 hits
search operators
You can link several search terms with Boolean operators .
The following operators can be used here and are processed in the specified order. This order can be influenced by using parentheses.
- NOT (or -): If you put NOT in front of a search term, you exclude hits that contain this word. You can achieve the same thing by putting a "-" directly in front of a word.
- AND (or +): You only get hits that contain the linked search terms. AND is the default operator and does not need to be entered unless parentheses are used. A space (blank) is then equivalent. However, once you use parentheses, a space is no longer recognized as AND. It is therefore important to write out the search operators when working with parentheses. Alternatively, you can also put a "+" directly in front of the search term.
- OR: You will only get hits that contain one of the search terms you entered.
ATTENTION: The operators must be capitalized and written in English. When using the +/- signs, each search term must be preceded by a plus or minus. Spaces (blanks) must not be inserted between characters and the following term.
Example:
Healthcare AND development NOT global
+Healthcare +Development -global
Only in "and more" use the spacing operators N or W e.g. :
N2: There may be a maximum of two words between the two search terms, the order of the search terms does not matter
W4: There can be a maximum of four words between the two search terms, and the search terms must be in the specified order
Search with wildcards
Use "?" as a placeholder for exactly one character in your search term.
Example:
Organization?ation = Organization and Organization are found
Use "*" as a wildcard for multiple characters in your search term.
Example:
Manage* = Management, managen, Manager and others are found
phrase search
If you want an exact word order, an exact title search , put the search terms in quotation marks. To search for an exact author, use "last name, first name".
Advanced Search
In the "Catalogue" or in "And more" you can use the advanced search to call up a search mask in which you can enter your search terms in predefined search fields. You can also restrict your hit list, e.g. with regard to language or the year of publication.
save Search
You can call up your previous search queries via "Search history". The list is lost when you exit THMfind. To save search queries, log in via "Loan account" in the menu bar at the top or via the "Loan account" tab, go to the search history and click on "Save" after the search query.
