You can make content (PDF files, etc.) available to your students in Moodle that is uploaded in accordance with the new Copyright Act for the Knowledge Society. Information on this can be found in Section 60a

Teaching and instruction (UrhWissG § 60a)

  • Scope of content:
    Up to 15 percent of a work may be uploaded to Moodle. Images, articles from professional and academic journals, and works of short length (text up to 25 pages, music and videos up to 5 minutes in length) may be used in their entirety.
  • Types of Works
    : In principle, all types of works and all content covered by copyright protection can be used in Moodle.
    are excluded :
    - Teaching materials for school lessons
    - Films, within two years of the start of their usual theatrical release in Germany
    - Computer programs and databases
    - Press publications (daily newspapers and kiosk merchandise)
  • Attribution of author and source:
    As a general rule, when adding a work to Moodle, the author and source must be cited. This requirement is waived only in exceptional cases where this information cannot be determined even after documented research.
  • Defined group of participants and relevance to the course:
    The group of those privileged under Section 60a is limited. The works and parts of works may only be made accessible to the specifically defined group of course participants. The content may only be used by students who are enrolled in the relevant course.
  • Duration of Access:
    The duration of access for the user group is determined by the duration of the semester in which the course is offered.
