WIPoS (Wireless Indoor Positioning System) is a collaborative research project managed by THM University of Applied Sciences and Dresden University of Applied Sciences as well as some industry companies, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (AiF joint project). The project duration lasted from 2009 to 2011. The aim of the project is to conduct research for new solutions to mobile indoor positioning systems and the evaluation of their efficiency. The position of participants in a mobile network are to be determined reliably and with the precision of a few meters error range within a building. This must be applicable to conventional devices, such as UMTS mobile phones or laptops with WLAN access without any hardware or software addons. Potential realizations of the installation and operation in real-case scenarios are to be carried out with economic efficiency.
