Insight into study programs for Electrical and Information Technologies
In February, classes from three High Schools in Giessen and the surrounding areas visited the Electrical and Information Technologies (EI) department to inform themselves about the structure, contents and curricula of study programs at THM.
Each accompanied by one of their teachers, circa 20 school students from Theodor-Litt School in Giessen visited us on February 8th, and circa 10 Students from Friedrich-Dessauer School in Limburg visited us on February 14th. On February 15th, we welcomed another group of students from the Werner-von-Siemens School in Wetzlar.
Utilizing the physical-computing platform Arduino as an introductory example, Mr. Pechan demonstrated properties, possibilities and functions of microcontrollers. Then, the school students had the opportunity to realize their own mini-projects via Arduino: making LEDs blink and react to the environment utilizing button inputs as well as sensor values, communicate with switches, install and operate a stroboscope, analyzing serial interfaces, managing the input / output of analogue values via A-to-D converts etc.
Questions posed by the school students were answered by our tutors, laboratory engineers and professors in attendance.
