COMPUTER NETWORKS (CCNA)
COMPUTER NETWORKS (CCNA)
As part of the elective courses "Computer Networks 1" (CN1) and "Computer Networks 2" (CN2), students of our Electrical and Information Technology department can participate in the Cisco Networking Academy program. Both courses involve an English language E-learning concept with obligatory attendance periods during practical exercises.
Important subject areas include the configuration of IPv4/IPv6 routing protocols, tunneling protocols, switching, VLAN as well as methods for network security configurations. Course participants will be prepared for the CCNA® certification exam and receive a certificate after its successful completion.
Equipment
Our laboratory is equipped with four mobile stands, each with three routers, three switches and three Wireless 802.11N Gigabit Security Routers:
- 12 CISCO 2801 Routers and their corresponding cables, network interface controllers for networking and configuration via Telnet and console connection
- 12 CISCO 2960 Switches and their corresponding cables, network interface controllers for networking and configuration via Telnet and console connection
- 12 Wireless 802.11N Gigabit Security Routers with VPN WRVS4400N-EU
- 8 computer work stations
Software:
- Whireshark to analyze protocols
- Packet Tracer to simulate computer networks
Experiments
The Pakettracer software is used to simulate computer networks to configure simple IPv4/IPv6 networks. After our students have acquired the foundations necessary, they can gain first-hand experience by applying it to practical exercises.
One the one hand, this includes all of the experiments listed in the Cisco Networking Academy's laboratory handbooks. On the other hand, further experiments are conducted as part of the Communications Systems 1 course. Subject areas include:
- Basic configuration of routers and switches: Assigning IP addresses, DHCP, NAT, VLAN and network security
- Experiments related to the routing of IPv4 and IPv6 via the routing protocols RIP, RIPng, OSPFv2, OSPFv3, EIGRP, EIGRPv6
- In-depth experiments related to network security and tunneling protocols
Registration
Students of the EI and ZDH department can sign up for the elective Computer Networks 1 and Computer Networks 2 course. Students of the MNI department can sign up for the elective Practical Course on Computer Networks.
Primarily, only students from departments offering the respective courses can sign up for registration (see below). The courses have a maximum capacity of 16 students. If this capacity is not reached, students of other departments can participate in the respective course.
The subject areas will be taught in a practical course (course materials provided in English), followed by a practical final examination (Skill Exam). Additional online course materials are provided in English. Students also have the option to participate in the Cisco CCNA Certification Exam (Final Exam).
Optional FastTrack: If a minimum of 8 students participate, an optional FastTrack can be organized in the format of a block seminar during the lecture-free periods.
