Power electronics is a major branch in electrical engineering and is concerned with the application of semiconductor power converters for the transformation, control and switching of electrical energy. The voltage ranges from 5V to 150kV, the current strength from 500mA to 6kA and the transmittable output ranges from 5W to 50MW.
Nowadays, high-performance electronics are an integral part of almost every aspect of our lives. However, most people only become aware of this fact if devices become defective or do not function correctly. Our laboratory introduces students to the fascinating world of power electronics by providing them with the means necessary to gain first-hand experience in design and control of electrical systems.
