In the future, the M.A.M.U.T. robot should be able to plant autonomously needy landscape zones. The goal is to "save" areas affected by desertification. Desertification describes the change from a still fertile area to an area with desert-like conditions.
The replanting of trees is supposed to slow down or even stop this process. Besides planting, the robot should also be able to take care of the seedlings.
So far we have developed and constructed a small model of the concept. In addition, we will get our first robot platform as soon as possible. Meanwhile, the concept will be further developed in cooperation with biologists.
The project is namesake for our work group. So what's behind the abbreviation M.A.M.U.T.?
M.A.M.U.T. : Mobile Autonomous Modular Universal Technology
Current project status:
As a show piece for trade fairs, a small prototype of an all-terrain mobile base was realized in the scope of a project work by students of the department of mechanical engineering.
Using the prototype as a reference, a mobile base made of aluminium profiles was planned to be constructed independently. However, since the beginning of 2020 we have been hoping to acquire an existing platform from a research institution.
