Making contacts - but how?
Especially at the beginning of your studies, it's important to make new contacts and talk to other students. Here you'll find various ways to get to know your fellow students.
Look forward to STEP, the introductory study program, where you'll explore campus in mentoring groups and be introduced to your studies together through a variety of events. Your mentors will also be available to you as contacts throughout the semester.
General Student Committee (AStA)
The General Student Committee (AStA) is the official student representation at the university. It is elected by students and represents their interests to the university administration.
The AStA (General Student Committee) organizes regular events, such as movie or game nights, where you can meet other students and exchange ideas. You are also welcome to become a member of the AStA to participate in meetings and get directly involved.

International Office
The International Office is an important point of contact for international students, but also offers diverse networking opportunities for all other students.
At the International Stammtisch (a regular get-together), you can chat with other students in a relaxed atmosphere and share your international experiences, or play board games at themed evenings like "Game Night." If you're looking to build long-term international connections, participating in the International Buddy Programme (IBP) is perfect for you. Here, buddy teams are formed from newcomers and senior students of various nationalities, providing a space for exchange and mutual learning. A variety of events, excursions, and workshops foster networking and the international community within THM. You can find information about current events and news on the Buddy Programme website.
Green Office
The Green Office offers information, exchange, and projects related to sustainability. Here you can get involved and share your ideas for a vibrant and sustainable university community. You can participate in various events such as clothing swaps or litter cleanups and connect with other participants.

University sports
Take advantage of the university sports program to find a balance to your studies and to get to know other students.
It encompasses a wide range of sports and activities for all fitness levels. Whether you're an experienced athlete or simply a sports enthusiast, you'll find a variety of courses, workshops, and sporting events here. Choose from team sports like football or basketball, fitness classes like Zumba or circuit training, or outdoor activities.
Furthermore, the THM Fitness Studio is located on the Gießen campus and you are welcome to use it.

Student councils
The student councils are student representatives within each department.
Their tasks include representing the interests of students, organizing subject-specific events, and providing support with study-related matters. Several times a year, they organize events on campus, such as Christmas markets or barbecues.

Student initiatives
Student initiatives offer a very good opportunity to exchange ideas with other students and to get involved in a wide variety of areas.
We encourage you to explore the list of different groups. You don't necessarily have to be enrolled in a specific degree program; it usually depends on your individual interests.
