Simon KlinzTalk: Beyond Storytelling

A quick dive into the deeper aspects of visual storytelling and how to improve the quality of your designs in an entertainment production.
Despite being interesting for artists, this talk is also useful for game and narrative designers.


Personal background:

I'm a 2D and 3D artist at Limbic Entertainment where I'm creating concept art, illustrations and 3D models as well as outsourcing art.
For me, the early design phase which involves a lot of thinking, research, mind maps and scribbles is the most fun. Since I have a 2D background I tend to stay rough and messy in 3D until I nail down the design. Most of the time, I try to combine a rough 3D blockout and 2D drawing techniques. Just recently, I discovered Blender Grease Pencil for me which is super handy when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Favourite Game(s):

I really love S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat! No other game had such an impact on my life. It is definitely one of the most immersive games out there and you can easily lose yourself in the zone.
