Thallus warted to areolate; apothecial disc up to 4 mm in diameter, blood-red to brownish-red, margin prominent when young (later often disappearing).

Thallus rosetteforming (up to 3 cm diameter); lobes ± attached to the substratum, 7x1.5 mm, margins curved; soralia at short and ascending lobes, labriform, sulphur yellowish to greenish yellow (the colour of the lobes is different). Apothecia noot seen. Thallus K+ red.
