Short Description
Rights and obligations of employees and employers
Learning Objectives

Students will have the opportunity of deepening their knowledge of legal procedures and finding out how the legal
framework influences company decisions. Labour law determines working life in many ways and participants will be
made aware of the rights and obligations of both employees and employers.

Contents

Contract of employment: conditions of employment, information given by previous employers, reimbursing costs incurred
when attending the job interview; testimonial (basic principles, special language usage, form and content); fundamental
principles of labour law, sources of the law, basic terminology used; main and subsidiary duties of employees and
employers; preconditions for an admonishment, disciplinary measures, liability of employers; continuation of wage
payments in the case of illness, inability to work incurred due to the fault of the employee and not due to the fault of the
employee, giving notification of illness to the employer, certification of the inability to work, conditions for returning to
work, measures against alcohol consumption at work; sick leave, time off work for further education purposes;
termination of the contract of employment, rescission of the contract, releasing staff; routine and exceptional dismissal,
settlement on dismissal; codetermination rights of works councils, forms of participation; collective agreements; industrial
disputes (strike and corresponding reaction).
