ENT5 Architectural Design B5

Teachers
  • Dipl.-Ing.,M.Eng. Christian Hillgärtner
Prerequisites Required for Participation

Design B1, Design B2, Design B3, Design B4, Materials Sciences

Recommended Prerequisites for Participation

Project management 1; Tendering, Awarding of Contracts + Accounting

Short Description

The design (new or existing building) integrates the requirements of building law, structural design, building physics and sustainable planning and construction. The project is carried out in cooperation with teachers and students of civil engineering (integrated project). The results of the project teams are presented at regular joint project meetings, interfaces are clarified and the planning process is coordinated.

Contents

The module is partly carried out together with students from other fields of expertise. For this, they take on a specific role in the team (project management, architect, structural engineer, etc.).
The most common theoretical contents are
- Project management methods
- Principles and actors of integrated planning
- Costs, qualities, deadlines
- Documentation of the results of the work
The common practical contents are learned in comprehensive exercises:
- Integration of different disciplines (architecture, structural engineering, building services) and their contents in the planning of a joint project.
- Organisation of the project process and the team under the management according to the HOAI
The architectural content consists of:
- Planning
- Building law and building regulations
- Building construction in structure, envelope and finishing
- Building physics
Various aspects of sustainability are considered in the module, in particular
- development
- accessibility
- Communication zones
- Sound insulation, thermal insulation, fire protection
- daylight
- Indoor climate
- Space efficiency
- Adaptability, subsequent use
- Life cycle
- Surface sealing
- Sustainable building materials
- Simple, resilient construction and technology

Learning Objectives

Professional skills
The students can
- name different project processes, objectives and actors/roles.
- understand and apply their mutual relationships and influences on the course of a project from the sub-areas of design, building law, building construction, finishing, building services, supporting structure and sustainability criteria in a project.
- present the interdisciplinary design using 2D/3D CAD and perspective/model representation.

Methodological skills (technical & interdisciplinary)
The students can
- apply their knowledge of their own role and the role of other planning participants to achieve the project goals.

Social skills
The students can
- Analyze interim results and apply this continuously.
- adapt their role and the interim results to the group objectives.
- summarize the results in an interdisciplinary sub-project.
- develop and present results within a given time frame.

Personal skills
The students can
- Take on management responsibility and delegate sub-projects in small groups.
- assess themselves, the team members and the team result as well as other teams in joint presentations
- Develop solutions in a concentrated, precise and targeted manner.
