Getting Started - offers students professional support and guidance in their individual course of study if the standard period of study is extended by two semesters.
A more gradual start to your studies instead of a plunge into the unknown
|
You have decided to study Electrical and Information Engineering at THM in Friedberg? Welcome! Do you want to complete a degree program that supports you from the very beginning and opens the door to success? Then Getting Started right for you! |
Getting Started is a study option that allows you to dedicate yourself more intensively to your studies. The first three semesters, the introductory phase, are extended to five semesters. You have fewer exams to take each semester, and you also participate in mandatory supplementary courses to deepen your knowledge.
What good will that do you?
- You have a more relaxed transition between school and university
- You will receive systematic support during your studies to close any existing knowledge gaps
- You will study in a small learning group for the first few semesters
- You will learn important soft skills in a targeted way
- You have 2 more semesters eligible for BAföG funding to achieve your success

Who is the Getting Started study option suitable for?
Anyone can participate in the Getting Started study option. Feel free to come to our consultation; we'll help you make your decision.
We recommend participation in the Getting Started study option to students who can answer one or more of these questions with "yes":
Do you have family or other commitments that leave you less time for studying? Do you have to work alongside your studies? Do you have health limitations? Do you play a lot of sports or have other leisure activities that take up a lot of time? Are you unsure whether your prior knowledge is sufficient for your studies? Do you have trouble motivating yourself to catch up on material? Has it been a while since you were in school, and you're no longer used to studying?
The vast majority of our students need about four semesters longer than the standard period of study to complete their degree. So, if you finish your Getting Started programme within the standard period, you'll still be faster than most other students.
So, what are you waiting for? Apply now for Getting Started at the Department of IEM!
