610 euros for children's and youth hospice work

The Ambulatory Children's and Youth Hospice Service (AKHD) in Giessen supports families with children, teenagers, or young adults living with life-limiting illnesses. Twenty-eight volunteers assist these families, providing support not only to the seriously ill but also to their parents and siblings. For this valuable work, the Giessen and Wetzlar Local Staff Council of the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) presented a donation of €610.

SkyMi: Schools send eight weather balloons into the sky

Research on the edge of space: Students from Central Hesse receive weather balloons and can use them to conduct experiments at altitudes of up to 35 kilometers. The "SkyMi" project is organized by Justus Liebig University Giessen , Philipps University Marburg, the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen , and the Research Campus of Central Hessen (a consortium of the three Central Hessian universities), as well as the Central Hesse Student Research Center.

Double bronze provides momentum for the summer

When 1000 meters becomes a mental test of endurance, the hall shakes, and hundredths of a second decide on precious metals, then it's the German University Championships: At the end of February, the national university elite in ergometer rowing met in Düsseldorf: More than 300 athletes competed for titles – among them were three students from the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM).

Fifteen teams from the region are traveling to Darmstadt and Kassel

A record number of young people participated in the "Jugend forscht" (Youth Researches) competition and its junior edition, the Central Hesse regional competition: 19 experiments each from students up to 14 years old and from those over 15 were presented on Friday at the Giessen Congress Hall. Eleven winning teams will advance to the respective state finals in Darmstadt and Kassel. Four more teams from Central Hesse qualified in the North Hesse competition.

Girls' Day at THM: register now!

Girls in grades 5 through 10 can choose from a variety of activities when THM hosts its annual Girls' Day. This year, all those interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) are invited to participate on April 23rd. Registration is open until April 17th. Making cell and gene therapy accessible to more people

Gene and cell therapies enable the treatment of diseases that have previously been difficult to treat, such as certain types of cancer or hereditary diseases. Currently, this form of therapy is only available to a small number of patients – a major reason being the complex and still inadequate production processes. This is where the MATTIE research project at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) comes in.

Around 60 students from the Clemens-Brentano-Europaschule in Lollar explored these and other questions during a practical day at the Department Life Science Engineering (LSE) of the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) in Giessen .

Young researchers are holding a science fair in the Giessen Congress Hall

Curiosity and the desire to try things out for oneself are key driving forces behind scientific work. This is precisely where "Jugend forscht" and "Jugend forscht junior" come in: the nationwide competitions for young researchers are entering their 61st round. In Central Hesse, the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) and the Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) are jointly hosting the regional final. On Friday, February 20, 38 teams will present their projects to the public.
