Over 290 guests, two stages, more than 30 speakers, a full day. On September 1st, LOVEDIS celebrated its first year at the LOKSCHUPPEN in Marburg, bringing together corporate partners, Start-ups, universities, politicians, and other key players from the ecosystem. In addition to the kick-off and closing events of the two accelerator programs, the focus was on bridging the gap between Start-ups and industry in the three thematic areas of Construction, Industry, and Life Science. From 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., keynotes, pitches, and panel discussions took place on the two stages, Maschinenraum and Gleis 360. From 6:00 p.m. onwards, networking, an after-work party with DJ Julian, and a female aperitivo followed. Leonhard Nima and Alexandra Widmann hosted the event.

Dr. Claudia Weise will become an honorary professor at THM

The Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) has appointed Dr. Claudia Weise as an honorary professor. She has been a lecturer there since 2019, teaching students about renewable energies and thermodynamics. In addition, Weise has supervised more than ten project, study, and bachelor's theses and is a contact person during the practical training phase.

Joint statement: Hessian universities criticize planned changes to the Hessian Climate Law

The universities, universities of applied sciences, and art academies in Hesse are criticizing planned amendments to the Hessian Climate Law. In a joint statement to the Hessian Ministry for the Environment and the Hessian Ministry of Science, they warn against a planned weakening of Hesse's binding climate protection targets, which will also affect universities. They express concern about the proposed de facto abolition of the independent and non-directive scientific climate advisory board.
The planned "should" rather than "must" provisions in the climate law are viewed by Hessian universities as a deliberate weakening of Hesse's climate protection goals, which are based on scientific findings and the Paris Agreement of December 12, 2015. The state of Hesse can thus no longer live up to its role model status. Furthermore, the Hessian universities consider it essential that scientific findings, in which researchers from Hessian universities also participate, continue to be taken into account as an important basis for Hessian climate policy.

Keeping student health in mind

After eight years, the cooperation between the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) and the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) health insurance company for student health management at the university has come to an end. The collaboration, which began in 2019, ended as planned in the middle of the year because the project had been successfully sustained: For years, it has made an important contribution to promoting health among students.
With the support of TK (Techniker Krankenkasse), numerous health-promoting measures and services were developed and established within the framework of Studium 360° to support students in their everyday university life. Initially, funding was provided for a project position, as well as external expert consultation throughout the entire funding period. From 2023 to 2026, TK also supported an additional project position for the KOMPass certificate program, which aims to strengthen health literacy.

Before a component in a satellite or rocket flies hundreds of kilometers into space, it must pass numerous tests. Acceleration forces, abrupt temperature changes, and vibrations are just some of the stresses that space technology must withstand. Four young people want to simplify and reduce the cost of this process in the future: With their planned spin-off company, Fafnir Rocketry, they are working on a rocket that will serve as a test platform for space components. For many years, the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) has collaborated with universities in Eastern and Central Europe in teaching and research. In addition to diverse exchange opportunities, this offers students the option of a dual bachelor's degree. This summer, three graduates received their diplomas.
Every year, several students from THM 's partner universities in the CUCEE network (Cooperation of Universities in Central and Eastern Europe) earn double bachelor's degrees as part of the Integrated Study Abroad (IA) program. These degrees demonstrate international experience and in-depth knowledge of the education sector, and are linked to hopes for better job prospects. This path often involves considerable effort – nevertheless, three students from Polish partner universities took it last academic year, including two students from the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice (STU). A formal graduation ceremony was held there.

The THMOrus 2.0 has made it to the final of the Hessen Ideen start-up competition: It is one of twelve teams from nine Hessian universities that will be competing for prize money on September 24th.
In Frankfurt, founders Guerech Saitiev Soh Womagam, who studies mechanical engineering, mechatronics, and materials technology at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) campus in Friedberg, and developer Daniel Bruneß will present their idea live to a jury. The top three places will receive prize money, and this year, for the first time, there will also be a special AI prize from the research network hessian.AI as well as an audience award.
