Four students receive the Reza Mehran Prize

Four students from THM have been awarded the Reza Mehran Prize: Ines Aurore Jonfang Tchougong, Seruche Donchi Meguetsa, Juan Velez and Juan Ahmed accepted the prize at the THM ball.
The Reza Mehran Prize is awarded by the International Office of THM to particularly high-achieving and dedicated international students in STEM Degree Courses . Its founder, Dr. Reza Mehran, was a professor of electrical engineering at the Friedberg campus of THMfor many years. Mehran passed away last year at the age of 81.

How can organic waste be used effectively – in a way that generates energy, closes material cycles, and increases regional value creation? To conclude its lecture series in the winter semester, the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) will address a topic on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 7 p.m. that could hardly be more relevant in light of the energy transition, decarbonization, and resource scarcity: Renewable energy from organic waste in the context of industrial bioenergy.

At the end of January, the universities in Giessen will once again open their lecture halls, laboratories, and workshops: The Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) and the Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) invite prospective students to the University Information Days (HIT) 2026 – for the 50th time. The in-person subject-specific programs will take place on-site over two days, supplemented by a digital offering with interdisciplinary information about studying at these institutions.

From the environmentally sound assessment of batteries to improving the microclimate on campus, a sustainability strategy for the Giessen food bank, and optimizing energy consumption in telecommunications networks – four THMstudents have been awarded the sustainability prize for their theses: Ramona Röll, Mara Hintz, Madita Hense and Mirko Börner accepted the prize at the THM ball.

Young people can study future skills not only at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM). The university's faculty recently held an exchange with teachers on this topic. Prof. Dr. Stephanie Hanrath, Vice President for Academic Affairs at THM, invited the principals of secondary schools, vocational schools, and technical colleges in Central Hesse to participate. The program was organized by the THM School &THM liaison office.

“A space for us”: Pulse.Point opens at THM

Solar-powered wastewater treatment plant cleans wastewater

A reactor, stable foam cubes, and microorganisms: these are the key components of the wastewater treatment plant that Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Röhricht and his student team need to purify wastewater. The plant is designed to operate on solar power during the day and remain idle at night. After conducting initial basic research in the laboratory of the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM), the team has been conducting practical experiments at the wastewater treatment plant in Lollar since September of this year.
