Focus on the world: The target agreement between THM and the state of Hesse stipulates greater internationalization in teaching and research.

The Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) and the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Arts and Culture (HMWK) have signed their new target agreement for the years 2026 to 2031. In it, the university and the state agree on key strategic development goals in studies and teaching, research, digitalization, internationalization, and knowledge transfer.

The agreement also outlines the difficult financial conditions of the coming years, imposed by the strict framework of the Hessian Higher Education Pact, which is valid during the same period. THM announces a consolidation course, but simultaneously emphasizes its goal of safeguarding its innovative strength, its application-oriented research, and the high quality of its teaching.

Anton Baranov, a student at StudiumPlus, impressed Apple's top management with his app "Pitch Coach." He is among the winners of the prestigious "Swift Student Challenge.".

A good presentation can open doors – in your studies, in your professional life, and sometimes even on the biggest stage. Anton Baranov, a 22-year-old student in the StudiumPlus program, has turned this into a business idea. With his app "Pitch Coach," which helps people practice giving presentations, he is now among the winners of Apple's prestigious "Swift Student Challenge" programming competition. For the up-and-coming developer, a fourth-semester student in the Bachelor's program in Software Technology, this is not only a personal accolade he is very proud of, but also proof of how modern technology can solve very practical, everyday problems.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Joaquín Díaz, Dean of the Department of Civil Engineering at THM, welcomes the approximately 400 guests of the graduation ceremony in the Giessen Congress Hall.

The graduates of the Department of Civil Engineering (BAU) were celebrated at a formal ceremony in the Giessen Congress Hall following their successful completion of their studies. A total of 164 engineers completed their studies at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) in the winter semester of 2025/26 in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Railway Engineering, and the Master's program in Infrastructure – Water and Transport, a cooperative program with the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences.

The students explored how light can be fanned out using prisms they had made themselves in the laboratory.

Instead of regular classes, students in grades 5 through 10 enjoyed a full STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) program at the end of May. Universities, extracurricular educational institutions, and numerous companies in Central Hesse invited children and teenagers to participate in nearly 60 hands-on activities to demonstrate that physics, mathematics, biology, and computer science are not just school subjects, but influence our everyday lives.
Natural sciences made tangible.

At the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM), young people built their own USB solar chargers and water rockets, learned programming, and discovered the medical applications of radiation. The Institute for Medical Physics and Radiation Protection, headed by Prof. Dr. Martin Fiebich at THM Giessen provided insights into radiation therapy for cancer, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), and X-rays. "That little bit of physics isn't so bad," said Fiebich. Doctoral candidate Alexander Brockmann then led the students through the laboratories, allowing them to explore their surroundings with a thermal imaging camera, use microscopes, and demonstrated how precise coils for MRI are created using 3D printing and a great deal of manual work.

Students at THM- Department Civil Engineering have examined the B429 bridge at Eselswiese using modern structural diagnostics and digital methods, supported by Hessen Mobil.

Students of the Master's program in Civil Engineering at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) are allowed to learn on real infrastructure projects, regularly supported by Hessen Mobil: This summer semester, the focus was on modern methods of structural diagnostics, structural digitization and condition assessment at the Lahn bridge of the B429 at Eselswiese southwest of Giessen .

The bridge, currently undergoing repairs, is of great importance to the region's transportation infrastructure. According to plans by the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport, the structure is to be replaced by a new bridge by 2044. Reinforcement work already completed, among other measures, ensures safe operation until then. For the students in the elective module "Bridge Construction," the bridge thus provided a vivid practical example of the design planning for a potential replacement structure.
