On October 8, 2025, at 7 p.m., THINK, the startup support programme of THM (MAGIE Makerspace, Walltorstraße 57, 35390 Giessen ), invites you to the next Giessen Founders' Meetup. This time, Emily Schmidt, Vincent Dern, and Schlemun Danho will be guests. As part of their studies, they developed CleverSole, an orthopedic insole with a GPS sensor, and won the Hessian Founders' Prize with this innovation.
It is not uncommon for people with dementia to leave their place of residence, whether it be a care home or their own home. If they cannot be found in their immediate vicinity, the police are often called. This is a stressful situation that can become life-threatening depending on the weather and traffic conditions.
Drawing on their academic expertise and personal experience working with dementia patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals, Schmidt, Dern, and Danho aim to eliminate this risk without burdening those affected with additional technology. The technologically enhanced insole quickly emerged as the ideal tool. This innovative idea was recognized in 2024 with the Hessian Founders' Award in the "University Spin-off" category.
The founding roundtable is an initiative of the Technology and Innovation Center Giessen , the ECM (Start-up Center of the JLU), the THINK (Start-up Center of the THM), the IHK Giessen -Friedberg, the economic development agencies of the city and district of Giessen and the association “Region Giessen er Land eV”.
All young entrepreneurs, Start-ups, founders and those interested in starting a business are welcome.
Participation in the Giessen is free of charge. However, registration at https://th-ink.org/gsg/cleversole required.
