"FIT for choosing a course of study" – that's the name of the taster day at THM on the Friedberg campus for upper secondary school students. From railway engineering to mechanical engineering and business administration, lecturers and students from the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) presented various projects demonstrating how practical the respective Degree Courses are.
Around 230 students attended this year's FIT (Friedberg Information Day), 70 more than last year. They are currently in their final years of secondary school at grammar schools, vocational schools, and technical colleges in Oberursel, Wetzlar, Bad Homburg, Bad Nauheim, Butzbach, Ortenberg, and Marburg. The information day is organized by THM in cooperation with the State School Authority for the Hochtaunus and Wetterau districts. The twelve accompanying teachers from the schools also gained new insights into laboratories and Departments . Lena Bamberger from the School &THM liaison office organized the program with the Departments for them.
The students had previously chosen their area of interest from one of five subject areas: "Technology and Electronics", "Technology and Mechanics", "Physics and Mobility", "Economics and Technology", and "Computer Science in Media and Business". Among other things, they experimented in the physics lab, making balls float, built their own digital cube, gained initial insights into a CAD program and used this software to design a rocket keychain, or even had the opportunity to control a train or tram using the driving simulators.
In the subsequent "lightning round," the teenagers and young adults gained insights from Henrik Sprankel: He studied Physical Physics (now Applied Physics) at the Department of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Data Processing in Friedberg and currently works as a development engineer at the company Werth Messtechnik. His presentation was entitled "High-tech for clarity: industrial computed tomography at Werth.". 
Doris Helf from the central students advisory service concluded by summarizing everything worth knowing about studying at THM : advising services, application deadlines, admission requirements, and much more. Advising for prospective and current students is free and available on-site, by phone, or online. Direct contact with students and faculty gave the high school students a comprehensive insight into why studying at THM is worthwhile.
