How can the energy transition succeed? What challenges and opportunities do municipalities, energy suppliers, and industry face? The new "CampusDialog ENERGY" at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) in Giessen addresses these and other questions. This public event series brings experts from science, the energy sector, and industry into conversation with interested citizens.
The series is organized by THM in cooperation with the Institute for Transformation Tasks in the Energy Industry and Energy Technology (ITEE), an association of currently 15 municipal utilities and energy suppliers from the region. The series kicks off in the summer semester of 2026 with two themed evenings:
On Wednesday, June 10, the topic will be "Challenges of the Energy Transition: Status Quo and What Needs to Be Done Now." The speakers are also the hosts and organizers of the series, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Stetz from the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering and Prof. Stefan Lechner from the Department Mechanical and Energy Engineering . They conduct research and teach on energy economics and energy systems, their transformation, and smart energy grids, and will bring the audience up to date on the latest scientific findings.
On Wednesday, July 15, the hosts will be speaking with Lara Eicher and Anne-Sophie Patzig from the Marburg municipal utilities about "Transformation Needs: Opportunities and Risks of Municipal Energy and Water Supply." They will be looking at the needs and challenges for utility companies and what this means for end consumers.
Each event begins with two short presentations. Afterwards, there is an opportunity for open discussion, questions from the audience, and networking. The aim of the Campus Dialogue is to discuss current developments and controversial perspectives surrounding energy supply in a clear and practical way.
