Flexible working hours, home office options, and childcare facilities: the offerings for a better work-life balance are diverse and beneficial for both sides. Among the family-friendly conditions at THM are flextime without core working hours and the option to work from home up to 50 percent of the time under the family model. In addition, several parent-child rooms are available on campus.

Employees with family members in need of care also receive support through services such as seminars or discussion groups led by care guides who, in their role as guides in this complex area, provide advice and support to those seeking guidance. This support is complemented by a company health management program that offers various measures to promote the health of all employees and reduce health-related stress. "Our programs for better work-life balance are a benefit for everyone," emphasizes Annette Schönberger, Head of Personnel Development and Equal Opportunities at THM.

At the opening of the seventh awards ceremony, District Administrator Jan Weckler said: “We are witnessing a shift in the world of work. The demands have changed, and the compatibility of family and career is increasingly coming into focus. Companies must offer support in this area if they want to retain good employees or attract new ones.” He added: “With this family-friendly commitment, every company strengthens not only itself, but also the district as a whole. Because this dedication promotes the quality of life in the Wetterau region.”

Claudia Taphorn, head of the Women and Equal Opportunities department, emphasized the importance of a family-friendly work environment, particularly for equal opportunities. "Care work, whether for children or elderly relatives in need of care, is still predominantly performed by women. A company philosophy that focuses on reconciling family and career also contributes to gender equality. This means opportunities for women's professional development and financial security."

Since 2013, the Wetterau district has awarded this prize every two years to companies and institutions that have distinguished themselves through exceptional family-friendly initiatives. A total of 57 businesses have received the award so far – twelve of them for the second or even third time. The project was supported by the Working Group for Job Security and Re-entry into the Workforce.
