Raising the alarm before a medical emergency occurs: That is the goal of the team at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) that developed ORUS 2.0. The early warning system is intended for use in inpatient long-term care. It aims to identify the most common geriatric risk constellations, which no system has yet been able to reliably and explainably predict, according to founder Guerech Saitiev Soh Womagam and developer Daniel Bruneß at the presentation of their project.
The THMteam is now collecting votes in the Hessen Ideen startup competition via online voting to reach the finals and secure a chance at prize money. A total of 30 ideas from 14 Hessian universities are competing in this event. Interested parties can vote for their favorites until August 13th. New this year are increased prize money for the winning ideas and a newly introduced special AI prize in cooperation with the research network hessian.AI.
The three teams with the most votes in the online voting qualify directly for the final. Simultaneously, experts evaluate the idea and send ten more teams to the final.
The founders and developers of ORUS 2.0 aim to support caregivers and prioritize their attention with their solution – especially in light of demographic changes and the shortage of skilled workers. An EU-compliant AI analyzes care data from various sources, but it does not make diagnoses and therefore does not replace a caregiver. However, the system could help prevent serious falls, pressure ulcers, and other acute deteriorations, thus reducing their associated costs.
