One of the company's occupational safety and health bodies is the Occupational Safety and Health Committee (ASA).
According to Section 11 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (ASiG), its task is to advise on various issues related to occupational safety and accident prevention.
The ASA thus provides all those involved in the organization of occupational safety and health with a regular platform for the exchange of information and experience. The ASA's goal is to ensure smooth operations through the continuous improvement of occupational safety and health. The ASA's effectiveness depends significantly on good mutual exchange of information and ideas, as well as the regularity of its meetings. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Act, the ASA meets at least quarterly.
The ASA is mandatory for companies with more than 20 employees and is composed as follows:
- Entrepreneur or representative (manager with decision-making function),
- two members appointed by the staff council
- Occupational Safety Specialist (SiFa),
- Occupational physician (OP)
- Security officer.
Furthermore, other participants, such as the representative for severely disabled employees as defined in Section 178 of the German Social Code, Book IX, may participate in ASA meetings in an advisory capacity. On a case-by-case basis, other individuals, such as fire safety officers or external experts, may be consulted on specific topics.
