Working time models
Employees of the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen can generally choose between two working time models.
Flexible working hours have been mandatory for new hires since January 1, 2019.
- Flexible working hours
- Working hours must be performed within a working time corridor of 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Core hours can be defined and are binding.
- Fixed working hours according to the Hessian Working Time Ordinance
- Working hours must be performed at the following times; a break of 30 minutes must be taken after 6 hours of work.
- Monday - Thursday: 7:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. and Friday: 7:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m
- Overtime cannot be accrued and/or reduced.

Relaxing holiday
Employees covered by collective bargaining agreements and civil servants are entitled to 30 days of annual leave. For employees
hired during the year, those on parental leave, or those working part-time (less than 5 days per week), the number of leave days is reduced accordingly. Leave accrued during the current year must be taken by September 30th of the following year; otherwise, it expires irrevocably.
Trainees are entitled to 30 days of vacation per calendar year.
Holiday pay is only made upon termination of the employment relationship, based on the statutory holiday entitlement.
Leave of absence
Leave of absence can be requested for exceptional personal reasons. These include, among other things, the birth of one's own child, but also less joyous occasions such as the death of a close relative. A list of possible reasons can be found in Section 29 of the Collective Agreement for Public Service Employees in Hesse (TV-H); for civil servants, Section 16 of the Hesse Leave Ordinance (HUrlVO) applies. Educational leave
Employees covered by collective bargaining agreements are generally entitled to 5 days of educational leave per calendar year. This leave must comply with the provisions of the Hessian Educational Leave Act and be demonstrably recognized by the State of Hesse. This entitlement is reduced for employees working fewer than 5 days per week. The procedure and application form for educational leave are available in the intranet wiki .

Educational leave not taken in the current calendar year can be carried over to the following year. A corresponding application must be submitted to the Human Resources department within the year of entitlement.
Special leave
Special leave can be requested from the HR department if there is a valid reason. Valid reasons may include childcare, caring for relatives, and similar circumstances. During special leave, no Further will be paid, and therefore no contributions will be made to pension, health, or other insurance schemes.
If you intend to take special leave, please contact the time management staff in good time beforehand.
Vacation entitlement due to severe disability
All employees with a recognized severe disability are entitled to an additional vacation entitlement of 5 days in accordance with Section 125 of the German Social Code, Book IX (SGB IX), if they are employed full-time.
For working hours of less than 5 days per week or for starting work during the current year, this amount is reduced accordingly. A person with a severe disability is defined as someone with a recognized degree of disability of at least 50%.
If the assessed degree of disability is less than 50%, the following additional leave entitlement may be granted in accordance with the decree of the Ministry of the Interior and Sport:
Degree of disability 25-29%: 1 day;
Degree of disability 30-39%: 2 days;
Degree of disability 40-49%: 3 days
To be granted the additional leave entitlement, a copy of the severely disabled person's ID card or the official notification from the social welfare office must be submitted to the HR department. Only the degree of disability and its duration need to be disclosed. Information about the specific type of disability is expressly not required.

If you report your illness via email, you will receive a notification confirming receipt of the email.
The aforementioned extension/email address should also be used for feedback upon returning to work after illness.

If it is necessary for a parent to care for their own sick child, a certificate of incapacity for work for the child must be submitted to the personnel department.
Workplace reintegration management
The goal of workplace reintegration management is to restore, improve and promote the work and employment capacity and thus the health of employees in order to secure their participation in working life.
Specific objectives for workplace integration management are derived from Section 84 Paragraph 2 of the German Social Code, Book IX (SGB IX):
- Prevention of disability, including chronic illnesses and possible secondary illnesses, as well as early retirement due to
- Reduced earning capacity
- Overcoming incapacity for work
- Prevention of recurrent incapacity for work
- Protection of specifically threatened employment relationships
- Permanent job security
It is particularly important to emphasize that participation in the company's reintegration management program is voluntary for affected employees. The employee can stop the process at any stage without any negative consequences.
