Preamble:
The Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen ( THM ) commits itself with this code of conduct to adhering to the principles of appreciative, respectful interaction and cooperative behavior towards one another. This code of conduct complements the principles of the mission statement: "Motivation, Quality, Agility and Diversity".

Behaviors that contradict the principle of respectful and collaborative conduct as defined by our core values ​​will not be tolerated. In cases of violations, THM reserves the right to intervene and take appropriate measures in accordance with its internal anti-discrimination guidelines and applicable house rules.

Scope of application:
The General Equal Treatment Act (AGG) came into force in 2006. In 2014, the promotion of diversity was included as a further task in the Hessian Higher Education Act (HHG).

This code of conduct applies, in accordance with the provisions of the General Equal Treatment Act, to all university members, affiliates and guests of THM.

General Principles of Interaction:
THM values ​​friendly and constructive interaction among its members, affiliates, and guests. The learning and teaching atmosphere is characterized by respect, appreciation, trust, and the recognition of diversity. This respectful communication fosters motivation and ensures the high quality of teaching and research at our university. These principles also apply in the service and administrative departments and offices. THM THM promotes the participation of all members, affiliates, and guests and does not tolerate any exclusion. The focus here is on identifying, addressing, and eliminating any mechanisms that discriminate against or disadvantage.

Discrimination
of any kind will not be tolerated, especially with regard to the following protected characteristics/categories:

  • Ethnic origin
  • Religion and/or worldview
  • disability and/or serious illness
  • Gender
  • Sexual identity
  • Old
  • Social background
  • Family status
  • External appearance

At THM as any form of disadvantage based on one of the aforementioned protected characteristics/categories. Discrimination is independent of intent; rather, the decisive factor is whether unequal treatment based on a (usually) irrelevant characteristic results in disadvantages for university members, affiliates, and guests.
Generally, disadvantage exists when equals are treated unequally.
However, disadvantage can also occur when people with unequal circumstances are treated equally. An example of this is the need for accommodations for students with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses.

Violations of the Code of Conduct:
All university members, affiliates and guests of THM who act contrary to the principles of the Code of Conduct must expect consequences for their actions, which are laid down in the anti-discrimination guidelines and the university's house rules.

In particular, the following behavior will not be tolerated:

  • Sexualized communication and violence, or sexual harassment
  • Stalking, bullying and/or violation of personal rights
  • Denial of accessibility
  • Both verbal and non-verbal and/or physical violence, assaults
  • Racist attacks, denigration, exclusion and insults
  • Unequal treatment and/or denial of compensation for disadvantages
  • Politically radical statements (Hitler salute, IS propaganda, etc.)
