All members of the THM adhere to the following principles in the teaching and learning context:
(as of February 2025)

  1. Creating an open learning environment:
All teachers and students cultivate a cooperative and social atmosphere. All people, in their diversity, are treated with mutual respect and trust. We strive for equal opportunities. Through this approach, we foster motivated teaching and learning.
  2. Defining and communicating future-proof competence goals:
Based on the current state of science and technology, the respective professional field-specific requirements, as well as on the mission statement, guiding principles and strategy for studies and teaching at THM Departments define suitable competence profiles that also aim at individual personality development and the assumption of social responsibility (according to §15 HessHG in the version of December 14, 2021).
  3. Communicate performance requirements transparently and guide reflection.
Teachers create the conditions for competence-oriented and reflective learning processes.
  4. Promoting Active Learning:
Instructors encourage and challenge students to take responsibility for their own learning process. They promote active learning by using self-directed learning processes and teaching/learning methods that are appropriate and engaging for the specific learning situation.
  5. Using feedback from learners for teaching/learning processes: Lecturers actively contribute to establishing a constructive feedback culture at THM , in which lecturers and students jointly assume responsibility for a successful teaching and learning process.

  6. The university fosters and encourages continuous individual professional Professional Development Professional Development both subject-specific and didactic areas, as well as collaboration among instructors. The process of lifelong learning is actively modeled for students.
  7. Ensuring the framework for the development of didactic competencies and concepts:
The further development of didactic concepts and the necessary infrastructure is an integral part of the university's quality management. It is actively promoted by the university management and advanced by the teaching staff in their courses.

With the adoption of these principles by the Senate, quality-determining criteria are now available for the core process of teaching. They were developed by the "Higher Education Didactics" working group of the "Quality in Teaching and Learning" working group (AG QLS) .

The AG QLS is a topic-related network for quality development in teaching and studies, which works as a voluntary association of all those involved in teaching in a self-determined and non-hierarchical manner and communicates its results openly.

Explanations of these principles and further recommendations from the QLS working group available to all members of the university on the THM
