The dual bachelor's degree in engineering - mechanical engineering enables students to apply engineering methods to solve a wide range of tasks in mechanical engineering and to implement them in order to plan, develop and produce technical systems in their respective specialist area.
The course builds on a wide range of engineering and scientific basic subjects and combines them with the modern, professionally oriented subjects of general mechanical engineering, design, hygienic design and refrigeration and air conditioning technology. In the first three semesters, the classic basic modules of mechanical engineering predominate, e.g. B. mathematics, physics / chemistry, mechanics, materials and manufacturing technology, construction and thermodynamics. The higher semesters are characterized by an in-depth application-oriented range of courses in the respective subject area.
Studies
course of study
In the three and a half year dual bachelor's degree, theory (at the university) and practice (during the time in the company) take place alternately. The dual course begins with an introductory phase that begins in August. During this time, the student gets to know the company and its procedures and processes. Lectures for the first semester begin in October. After the first, second and third semester there is one practical phase instead of. Following the fourth semester, the fifth semester offers the opportunity to set an individual specialist focus or to spend a semester abroad. The fifth semester is followed by the project study, which extends over the entire sixth semester. Apart from two-day theory modules at StudiumPlus , the students work in their partner company and work on larger projects within its framework. The seventh semester starts with the practical part of the thesis in the company. Theoretical block modules then take place at the university. In the last month of their studies, the students prepare in the company for the colloquium that takes place at the end of their studies.
Digital Elective modules
The Elective modules of the 5th semester of the dual bachelor's degree in engineering mechanical engineering (B.Eng.) As a rule, take place as virtual courses. These are carried out live according to regular timetable via a video conference system.
About StudiumPlus
A full university degree, intensive practical experience and above-average career opportunities: StudiumPlus offers this perspective to young people who are motivated to learn and perform. StudiumPlus is an innovative dual study concept. This is backed by three strong partners: the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) as the largest university of applied sciences in Hesse, the CompetenceCenter Duale Hochschulstudien StudiumPlus e. V. (CCD), in which more than 950 partner companies and institutions are combined, as well as the Chamber Association of Central Hesse under the leadership of the IHK Lahn-Dill.

Specialties
General Engineering
The field of general mechanical engineering includes the areas of construction and industrial production, i.e. the methods on the way to the product. The students learn to find answers to complex engineering questions. You will be able to apply and implement engineering methods to solve a wide range of tasks in general mechanical engineering in order to plan, develop and produce technical systems in your respective field. The simulation of the mechanical behavior of components and automation technology, as an overarching sub-area of engineering, complete the range of courses.

Refrigeration and air conditioning technology
The refrigeration and air-conditioning technology specialization trains mechanical engineers specifically in the field of refrigeration and air-conditioning technology. This ranges from air conditioning construction to various cooling technologies and heating construction. Important and up-to-date topics that are dealt with within the scope of the subject are the conception and implementation of climate chambers in which experiments can be carried out under very special temperature conditions for research purposes. The field of refrigeration and air conditioning technology would also be unthinkable today without the inclusion of the field of regenerative energies.

Hygienic design
Hygiene design is a part of special machine construction. In the food and pharmaceuticals sectors in particular, machines, systems and components must be designed and built to the highest hygienic standards. The subject teaches design principles that avoid structural weaknesses that can promote hygiene-related hazards. Central points of the hygiene design are that the materials, surfaces and structural elements are easy to clean and the microbiological basis for germ formation and bacteria.
