The Master's course Infrastructure - Water and Transport is a joint course offered by the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen and the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. The course thus bundles the competencies and specialist knowledge of both universities in this field.
As part of the study programme, students are taught technical, operational and organizational aspects of infrastructure measures in the areas of water and transport, taking into account social, ecological and economic aspects. The project-oriented course focuses on the planning, maintenance and operational optimization of plants and buildings.
The Infrastructure – Water and Transport master's programme can be studied full-time or part-time. With the extra-occupational variant, the course of study is stretched so that as a rule only three instead of six modules are taken per semester and the duration of the study is thus extended from three to five semesters.
Studies
study content
The students not only learn to plan infrastructure systems, but also to put them into operation and maintain them. As generalists, they combine business and ecological knowledge as well as technical expertise. In cooperation with authorities, engineering offices and companies, projects are created in which students are involved in the conception, planning, construction and operation. So far, projects such as project management when planning a section of motorway, the economic and technical consideration of systems for regenerative energy supply or the conception of water management systems have been implemented. The students can focus on the areas of water/wastewater or transport or even across the board.
Excursions to destinations in Germany and abroad take the students, for example, to biogas plants, sewage treatment plants, water supply facilities and waste disposal plants, where the focus is not only on the technical systems but also on operation and profitability. They look at road and rail traffic systems, discuss innovative traffic concepts and operational and safety-related aspects.

Areas of specialization
Elective modules
During your studies, priorities can be set through extensive options. In addition to the overarching modules (for example from the area of management, law and environment), it is also possible to choose Elective subjects from a focus area (water or traffic). If at least four Elective modules and the project from the same area are selected, the focus is on this. Of course, Elective modules from both areas can also be selected.
Students with a 6-semester bachelor's degree (180 CrP) may be admitted with conditions and must provide evidence of a further 30 credit points before being admitted to the master's thesis after approval by the head of the course.
