Report from our student representatives
"Exciting start to the Master's programme in Human Resources Management"
Last summer semester, we launched the new Master's programme in Human Resources Management with 19 students.
The first semester of the Master's in Human Resources Management at our university was characterized by a variety of exciting activities and valuable experiences. Right from the start, we started with an interactive business simulation game, which we conducted jointly with our sister programme, Master's in Corporate Management. This event not only provided us with professional insights but also the perfect opportunity to get to know our fellow students better. The crowning conclusion of our "freshman week" was a group bar crawl, during which we explored the area and earned the coveted "Master of Ludistreet" certificate.
An absolute highlight of the semester was our excursion to the Deutsche Börse in Eschborn, Germany, with the "Digital Transformation in Human Resources Management" module. Here, we gained exclusive insight into the HR work of one of Germany's most important financial institutions. A fascinating tour of the building and a shared lunch rounded off the visit. Afterwards, we continued on to the Old Stock Exchange in Frankfurt, where we received an informative presentation on ETFs and were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the legendary trading floor.
Like last year, we visited the "Lab for Innovative Teaching" at JLU. There, we immersed ourselves in the fascinating world of virtual reality (VR). We were able to try out the VR headsets up close and immerse ourselves in various virtual environments. A particular highlight was the opportunity to practice an impromptu speech using VR technology—an innovative method for improving presentation skills.
These practical experiences not only enriched our first semester academically, but also gave us exciting insights into the diverse aspects of human resources management. We're excited about the next semester and our upcoming Elective modules, where we can further deepen our knowledge individually.
We look forward to the coming period and the further insights, challenges, and highlights that still await us.
Testimonials from our students
How does the master’s degree in human resources management at the THM support you with regard to your professional goals?

After completing my master's degree, I worked as an HR concepts specialist at EDEKA headquarters in Hamburg. There, I handle strategic and conceptual tasks, including project responsibility for HR metrics for the sustainability report in accordance with the CSRD.
I started as a trainee in human resources, where I was able to learn all aspects of human resources over the course of one and a half intensive years. The master's programme helped me quickly become familiar with the diverse topics. The broad focus of the programme, as well as the courses I took in the master's programme "Corporate Management," particularly support me today in my process work and strategic concept development.

Last week I was at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen in Giessen for work – the same place where I completed my master's degree two years ago.
After my appointments, I met my former professor, Martina Höber, and ended up attending her Social Skills lecture in the first semester of Human Resources Management at the THM Business School. What was planned as a quick visit turned into a spontaneous 𝗤&𝗔-𝗥𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲: Questions about studies, specializations, career paths - and: Are you looking for a job in academia? The perfect bridge to my current path: Now almost a year in 𝗙üTime management is important. We talked about time management—not just in terms of efficiency, but also about the importance of knowing your own worth, choosing appointments consciously, and asking yourself: What's the best time for me? And consequently: Do I have to be there for everything? We talked about dealing with employee concerns in crises, about resistance, and how to assert yourself as a leader. Honestly. Really. Unplanned. Thank you for the great exchange and the kind words at the end of the lecture, dear Master's in Human Resources Management class of 2025! I wish you all the best on your journey.

After completing my master's degree, I joined a small, international company as an HR Business Partner, where I currently help shape structures and processes, among other things. The modules on communication and leadership skills, in which we reflected on our behavior through role-plays and case studies, were particularly valuable during my studies. I now use the insights I gained there in my daily professional life when interviewing applicants, employees, and managers. I benefit from very current modules such as Digital Transformation in HR, People Analytics, and AI, as they reflect the latest developments. Furthermore, modules such as Strategic Management, Project and Business Process Management, and Performance Management help me think strategically and look beyond the HR field. In addition, various practical projects gave us valuable insights into current challenges in the human resources field. I was also able to gain experience in an international environment through a semester abroad in Vancouver, a project that THM offers excellent opportunities for. In addition to the academic content, what I particularly remember is the personal atmosphere in the master's programme, characterized by direct contact with the lecturers and the close camaraderie among us students.
