In an increasingly complex world, you ensure that technical processes become comprehensible. You combine technology with didactics, media with content, using text, images and sound as your tools. With us you will be trained from the ground up to communicate technical content in an understandable way - be it in companies, institutions, editorial offices or in public relations. You will learn how to deal with a wide variety of information - from operating instructions, to animations and explanatory films, to interactive learning content on stationary and mobile devices.
If you enjoy understanding complex topics, have a technical interest and are creative at the same time, then this master's degree programme offers you the ideal starting point for a professional career in the media sector. Relevant previous knowledge is not required and career changers are expressly welcomed. You will profitably use the knowledge of your previous studies in modules on topics such as language, videography, audio, technology or editorial systems.
We are the only master's degree programme in Hesse that combines multimedia training with technical editing content. With a rate of 95%, our alumni start their careers successfully immediately after completing their studies.

The focus of our studies is professional work with images, video and audio as well as target group-oriented and media-appropriate text production. You will learn how to use common video, image editing and audio editing programmes as well as how to work with DTP tools and editorial systems.
Practical learning
We focus on interaction and active participation. In our seminars you can actively participate, discuss and implement your ideas directly. Practical learning offers you the opportunity to specifically expand your skills and gain valuable experience for the job.
State-of-the-art technology
Our course offers you the most modern technical equipment so you can try out your creativity and variety. From day one, we will train you to master our highly mobile film equipment as well as our sound and photo studio. Whether at the microphone, in front of or behind the camera, at the editing suite or at the mixing desk - find out where your strengths and interests lie and set your own priorities in media production.
Exciting projects through collaborations
We also give you the opportunity to gain practical experience in projects with the Hessian Film and Media Academy (hFMA) and in collaborations with companies. Here you can contribute your ideas and make valuable contacts for the future.

The practice-oriented TRMD course was the perfect basis for my entry into corporate communications. At Rovema, I lead the academy where we develop programmes that enable both our customers and our employees to make optimal use of our company's processes and machine solutions. During my time at trmd, I learned to prepare complex content in a clear and structured manner - a skill that plays a key role in my current position.
One of the biggest challenges is to design learning units that are clear, precise and engaging. The needs of a wide range of target groups must be taken into account: customers often want practical and easy-to-understand content, while internal employees expect more in-depth technical backgrounds. Finding this balance is a big challenge and a constant learning process, not only during your studies but also later in your career.
Another exciting task is communication between the different departments - from technology to sales to product development. The knowledge from my studies always helps me to moderate content so that everyone involved can pursue the same goals and work together effectively.

Samantha Steinhauer completed a semester abroad in Turkey at the EGE University in Izmir in the winter semester 2022/2023. As part of her TRMD studies, she opted for an Erasmus+ experience, which she shaped both academically and personally and reported on this point.
Kolay Gelsin! (Turkish for “May it you be simple ”)
From the first semester I had the wish to study abroad for a while. The decision to make a semester abroad has long been clear. Due to the pandemic, however, I only decided to do so after all TRMD courses and before the master's thesis. I would make this decision again at any time because I already knew my study content and could deepen it at EGE University.
Why Turkey?
A winter semester in a warm, sunny country was a tempting performance. But my passion for Turkish culture, the delicious food and my wish to expand my Turkish skills also played an important role. So I could get the best out of my semester abroad.
My experiences at the EGE University in Izmir
The EGE University has a huge campus that is fully fenced despite its extensive. There are security controls at each entrance, so that only students and teachers have access - which I found very impressive.
As one of the few master students in the entire Erasmus programme, I only had another fellow student with which I participated in the Center for Media Application and Research '. It seemed particularly important to the teachers to enable us international students an enriching stay. For example, we undertook excursions such as the 'Radyo Ege', for example, or visited the in -house television studio. The content from my TRMD studies ideally prepared me for these practice-oriented experiences.
A pleasant surprise was that a doctoral lecturer gave us the opportunity to take part in a symposium. Each of us chose their own research topic, which we then worked out and presented. This experience went far beyond what I hoped for and introduced myself to the academic sense.
Leisure and life in Izmir
During my semester abroad, I lived alone in a 2-room apartment, which was financially possible thanks to the Euro Lira course. The option of living in the student dormitory was not an alternative for me due to the 3-bed room. Throughout the entire time, the organization was excellently supported by the Erasmus group at EGE University. Even before the beginning of the semester, we received valuable information in video tutorials, such as: B. to use public transport in Izmir. Joint activities were regularly organized through a WhatsApp group, which helped me quickly find friends. The friendship is now strengthened that we are still regular in contact after the semester abroad.
In retrospect, it was the best decision for me that I could have made in both academic and personal context. I not only learned a lot about myself, but also about cultural differences and international friendships.
Ultimately, the semester abroad far exceeded my expectations. It was an experience that went beyond purely academic learning. The encounter with Turkish culture and the language, which always opened up new perspectives for me, was particularly formative. An example of this is the greeting 'Kolay Gelsin' ('May it you Simply be '), who is often said in Turkey when you see someone at work - whether baker, dentist or teacher. This greeting expresses an appreciation for doing the person, regardless of whether you know them or not. By learning the language, I not only expanded my foreign language skills, but also have been able to develop a deeper understanding of another culture. I can therefore only recommend this experience that I gained thanks to my TRMD studies.
Theresia Kiesel did an ERASMUS semester abroad in Estonia at Tallinn University of Technology (TUT) in the 2016/2017 winter semester as part of her TRMD studies.
The parliament in Estonia is elected online and Skype was invented!
At the time, I had already taken and completed all TRMD courses and used the semester to acquire additional basics in the field of computer science. When I went through the list of partner universities, Estonia immediately caught my eye because I had heard that the country is well positioned in the field of information technology. When I researched this, I found out that in Estonia, for example, parliament is elected online and Skype was invented there.
The fact that I had never been to a Baltic country before reinforced my decision to apply for Estonia. The process went smoothly and so I flew to Tallinn at the end of August 2016.
I stayed in a hostel for exchange students, which I really liked because it brought me into contact with a lot of other exchange students. I spent a lot of time with them, explored Tallinn and also made a lot of trips. During my semester abroad I saw the following places: Tartu, an Estonian national park, the two largest Estonian islands, Riga, Vilnius, St. Petersburg, Helsinki, Lapland, Stockholm and Oslo.
I took these trips on the weekend and attended five courses at TUT during the week: Programmemen I, Introduction to Programmeming, Introduction to Information Technology, Estonian Language and Culture and Russian for Beginners. The courses were all in English and thanks to the orientation days at the beginning, I had no problems at TUT. I really liked all of the courses, even if the structure was a little different than what I was used to in Germany. For example, I wrote midterm exams in almost all subjects and had various exams during the semester that counted towards the final grade.
I used the time during the week to explore Tallinn. There was a lot to see there too, I kept strolling through the beautiful old town, was in the “hipster area” Telviskivi, in the Kalamaja district and in the Rotermanni district. I also drove to the beach in Pirita again and again and was at the old town hall, the Linnahall. I also visited some museums, such as the Museum of City History and the Seaplane Harbor Museum. And all of the restaurants, cafés and bars in the old town can only be recommended!
I have never regretted the decision to spend a semester abroad, even though it extended my studies by a semester. In addition to the basics in computer science, I was also able to gain a lot of intercultural experience, both through traveling and through my international roommates in the hostel. Estonia was perfect for that!

requirements | The prerequisite for admission to the master's degree in technical editing and multimedia documentation (TRMD) is a completed first degree (at least a bachelor's degree) with a final grade of 2.5 or better. TRMD students come from technical, scientific, humanities, social science, artistic and related disciplines. We appreciate this interdisciplinary composition and are aware that your knowledge focus differs greatly. In the first semester, we bring you up to speed in the areas of technology and communication.
