In Hesse there are many ways to turn your dream of studying into reality. The following information is intended to make university admission a little more transparent for you.
University access is regulated in § 60 of the Hessian Higher Education Act of December 28, 2021 (GVBl. 2021, 931) in the currently valid version.
Entry requirements for Bachelor degree courses
The following qualifications entitle you to study for a bachelor's degree at universities of applied sciences (universities of applied sciences):
- General University Entrance Qualification
- Subject-related higher education entrance qualification
- a previous education recognized by the Hessian Ministry of Culture as equivalent to the entrance qualification for a university of applied sciences
- Technical college entrance qualification
- one successfully filed University entrance exam for professionally qualified people
- the master's certificate
- Completion of professional advancement training
- Graduated from an administration and business academy in connection with vocational training
- Intermediate school leaving certificate in connection with a completed, qualified 3-year vocational training (Graduated after January 1st, 2011) with a final grade of 2.5 or better
Certificates of advanced technical college entrance qualification from other federal states
The academic part of the advanced technical college entrance qualification, acquired at the upper level of the Gymnasium, is mutually recognized in all federal states except Bavaria and Saxony. The certificate in connection with an additional one is considered as access to studies at universities of applied sciences in Hesse professional activity.
Whether the certificate you have obtained is recognized in Hesse by a resolution of the Conference of Ministers of Education is usually stated in a corresponding certificate.
Does your certificate only contain a note, e.g. B. "... this certificate entitles you to study at a university of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg...", please submit your certificate well in advance of enrollment State Education Authority for the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg a. There you can apply for a certificate stating that your degree is equivalent to the Hessian technical college entrance qualification.
International applicants
Prospective students outside the EU
International prospective students with a foreign university entrance qualification cannot apply directly to the Technical University of Central Hesse. For this reason, a separate application is required UNI ASSIST, employment and service center for international student applications, required. All applications are pre-checked there and forwarded to the THM after the check.
The university entrance qualification that entitles you to study alone is not sufficient. Sufficient German language skills must be proven for admission to the course. The following proofs are accepted
- German language test for university entrance (DSH, level 2) or
- TestDaf (German as a foreign language) at least level 4 in all parts of the test or
- German language diploma from the Conference of Ministers of Education (level II – DSD II; level test 4x C1) or
- Large or small language diploma from the Goethe Institute or
- Central upper level examination (ZOP) of the Goethe-Institut or
- Goethe certificate C2
- TELC C1 University
Prospective students from the EU
International prospective students from the EU with a foreign university entrance qualification apply or enroll directly at the Technical University of Central Hesse. In these cases, your foreign certificates will be checked directly at the THM . An application via UNI-ASSIST is therefore not necessary.
The university entrance qualification that entitles you to study alone is not sufficient. Sufficient German language skills must be proven for admission to the course. The following proofs are accepted:
- German language test for university entrance (DSH, level 2) or
- TestDaf (German as a foreign language) at least level 4 in all parts of the test or

- Central upper level examination (ZOP) of the Goethe-Institut or
- Goethe certificate C2
- TELC C1 University
Entry requirements for Master degree courses
Enrollment in a master's degree requires a first professional degree (usually in the corresponding bachelor's degree), which must be completed when enrolling for the master's degree. It is therefore not possible to enroll in a consecutive master's programme and in a first professionally qualifying programme in the same semester.
Further requirements (e.g. language skills, overall grade of the first qualifying degree of at least good (2.5 and better) and other detailed conditions are regulated in the examination regulations of the respective degree programme.
Entry requirements for studying at StudiumPlus
dual bachelor degree courses
Enrollment for a dual bachelor’s degree requires a university entrance qualification according to § 54 of the Hessian University Act. In addition, a contract must be concluded between the student and a CCD partner company of StudiumPlus .
dual master degree courses
Enrollment in a master's degree requires a first professional degree (usually in the corresponding bachelor's degree), which must be completed when enrolling for the master's degree. It is therefore not possible to enroll in a consecutive master's programme and in a first professionally qualifying programme in the same semester.
Further requirements (e.g. language skills, overall grade of the first qualifying degree of at least good (2.5 and better) and other detailed conditions are regulated in the examination regulations of the respective degree programme.

If you do not have a first university degree, it is possible to obtain one Qualifying Examination to be admitted to the master’s degree.
