Opportunities for financing your studies
There are several options for financing your studies, which are listed here. Most students finance their studies through a mixture of different options.
1. Own reserves or financial support from others
This includes, for example, money that was lost during training or employment saved became or the financial support from parents. It's a government contribution child support, which is usually paid until the age of 25 while studying. You can find out more, including the obligation for parents to provide financial support for their studies, at Pages of the Deutsches Studentenwerk read.
The scholarship is the cheapest way to finance your studies because you do not have to pay it back. Around three percent of all German students currently benefit from a scholarship. Next to the financial support there is usually one ideal promotion. More answers our Scholarship Competence Corner.
The BAföG is the government study grants, the amount of which varies according to the income of parents measured. The amount of the BAföG is determined in defined conditions for each individual case. The current maximum is at 934 euros. Since this is a very individual calculation, we always recommend consulting with the Student Union Gießen. The also provides a first assessment BAföG calculator. By the way, with BAföG only the half the money, until maximum 10,010 euros, to be repaid, the other half is a government grant.
You can also submit your application online at: www.bafög-hessen.de.
In most cases, an application is worthwhile, because BAföG is also paid proportionately.
4. Jobbing while studying
Many students work to improve their financial situation. As a rule, there is enough time in addition to studying, for example to 520 euro job exercise. However, it is important to pay attention to various issues, such as tax or insurance issues. Detailed information on this can be found on the website of German Student Union.
If you have one job search, feel free to look at the THM job portal or the Job exchange of the Gießen student union over.
That offers personal advice Student Union Gießen on.
5. Student and educational loans
credit means that after completing your studies (possibly with a short break), you must return your monthly monies received during your studies repay – plus interest. There are numerous providers with different offers. That Student Union Gießen advises and supports the application process.
A NOTICE: Before taking out a student loan, please check all the options already mentioned in detail and only decide on a loan if the other options are not sufficient!
6. Study Fund
Study funds are also a way of financing your studies, in which at the end the funds received repaid be - on individually agreed terms, as “reverse generation contract”. However, the principle is a bit different than with loans or BAföG, so it depends on individual opportunities in the later job market or similar and you pay pro rata of his future income return. Depending on your personal situation, this can also be (significantly) more than you received during your studies, but nothing if you have no income.
A NOTICE: As with loans, we recommend that you find out more about the terms and conditions of the various providers before you apply for or decide on a study fund.
