What am I good at? At school or in your free time? What am I interested in? What am I really enjoying? What am I volunteering for? What do I like to get up early for? What tendencies run through my life?

Answer these questions yourself and conduct an interview with family or friends is usually the first step. This may currently also sell one or the other boring minute.

Furthermore, various online tests a support option.

In the step "discovering potential" there would also be an opportunity to think about what you would like to do in a future job: How do I imagine my life in 10 years? How would I like to work in the future? What should absolutely not be part of my job?

You can now see your potential in front of you. Well-known and probably also new. Which potentials do you describe most aptly, which ones fit together? Do you have any idea in which study and career direction this could lead you? Follow this trail! In the next step we will show you some tips. If you have no idea at first, please contact the students advisory service and we will continue our research together.

To inform

In the second step, you should obtain extensive information: Which Degree Courses are offered? What content do they have? Where and in what form is my desired course offered? What requirements are necessary? What jobs can I do with a degree?

You can also give the various criteria an additional weighting (very important, less important, ..., not important/only for information) and thus prepare the next step "Decide". You might be able to think of another way to compare the different options yourself.

Have you already decided on a course of study? Then congratulations!

What has helped me make decisions in the past? How does it feel when I imagine having decided on the course? Do I feel good or not if I imagine the consequences of the decision?

When it comes to personally important topics, it is not easy for many people to make a decision. The head and stomach are not uncommon in contrast to each other. We would be happy to help you in a consultation.

You can also get tips for your way to the decision from books. You can find decision-making methods and exercises to fill out, for example, in "Tillmann Grüneberg: With the right questions about the right course of study". This and other books are also available digitally, for example at hessen.onleihe.de

However, most likely no one can give you 100% certainty about the decision. Because you will only notice whether the course is developing according to your expectations once you have started your studies. Obtaining extensive information beforehand can, however, minimize the risk of a detour.
