This digital accessibility statement applies to the under www.thm.de published website of the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen .

As a public body within the meaning of Directive (EU) 2016/2102, we endeavor to make our websites and mobile applications consistent with the provisions of the Hessian Disability Equality Act (HessBGG) and the Hessian Ordinance on Accessible Information Technology (HVBIT) for the implementation of Directive ( EU) 2016/2102 to make it barrier-free.

State of compliance with the requirements

The accessibility requirements result from §§ 3 paragraphs 1 to 4 and 4 of the HVBIT, which was issued on the basis of §14 of the HessBGG.

The verification of compliance with the requirements is based on a self-assessment carried out between November 16th, 2020 and December 18th, 2020 Center for blind and visually impaired students (BliZ).

Based on the review, the website is only partially compliant with the above requirements due to the following incompatibilities/exceptions.

Incompatibility with the HVBIT

The content listed below is incompatible with §3 paragraph 1 of the HVBIT and not barrier-free for the following reasons:

The content of the website of the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen is not managed centrally but decentrally by many editors from different organizational units. In order to permanently minimize barriers, these people must be further sensitized to the topic and trained accordingly. In principle, new content should always meet the agreed requirements, and existing content should be adapted accordingly.

  • Some graphics and graphic controls are not labeled or are inadequately labeled.
  • The submenu can only be operated to a limited extent with the keyboard. In addition, the keyboard focus is often not visible.
  • The function that enables students to generate an individual timetable cannot be used with screen readers.
  • Some functions in the application and enrollment process are not barrier-free.
  • The chat, with which students can request general information about studying at the THM , can only be used to a limited extent with the keyboard.
  • Some of the color combinations used on the website (green writing on a white background or white writing on a green background) do not meet the minimum contrast requirements.
  • Some documents on the website are not barrier-free.

measures

  • Addition of missing or insufficient labels.
  • Reworked submenus for better keyboard navigation options and fixed missing keyboard focus.
  • Optimization of timetable generation for screen readers (currently only an alternative, see below).
  • Adaptation of the chat tool for better usability or use of a barrier-free alternative.
  • Avoiding certain color combinations, always taking into account the corporate identity.
  • Creation of barrier-free future documents and successive transfer of existing documents into a barrier-free format.

Time schedule
Some of the measures are implemented directly if the requirements for the content management system are purely technical. Other areas, such as accessible documents, are a continuous process, especially when it comes to revising existing documents.  

alternative
As an alternative to the individual compilation of the timetable, a timetable with all subjects of the respective semester can be viewed without barriers.

If a satisfactory solution has not been found even after you have given feedback to the above contact, you can call in the enforcement and monitoring body for barrier-free information technology. After a period of six weeks, you have the right to contact the enforcement and monitoring body directly.
