A new course at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen is starting. In research and development, THM teams create innovations for industrial practice. The university is expanding its international cooperation network, thereby opening up additional opportunities for students to study abroad. A graduate's thesis receives a prize. A new professor has started work. The THM invites you to public lectures. Here you will find news from teaching, research and university life as a whole.

THM logos and lighting will be switched off during Earth Hour.

Lights out to highlight climate protection – that has been the principle of Earth Hour since 2007. Illuminated buildings and monuments around the world go dark for an hour, and many private households take part. This year the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen ( THM ) is also taking part.

For the first time, the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen will be the venue for the “Radiometric Seminar”, to which the Radiation Protection Association is inviting you to the Gießen campus on March 22nd.

Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Saskia Kraft-Bermuth from the THM Institute for Medical Physics and Radiation Protection offers a series of lectures in the all-day programme. Their thematic spectrum ranges from “photon detectors today and tomorrow” to “applications of AI in spectroscopy” to “imaging in medicine”. Experts from science, industry and the Physical-Technical Federal Institute will speak. At the same time, there will be an industrial exhibition on practical radiation protection.

The seminar is open to those who are professionally involved in radiometry issues or who have advanced knowledge in this field. Registrations are still available at the address of professional association possible.

Paul Miesen, Emily Schmidt, Vincent Dern and Schlemun Danho (from left) want to give dementia sufferers more freedom and security with Clever Sole.

How many kilometers does a person cover when crossing the Alps? That's what Vincent Dern wanted to know. The enthusiastic athlete is a student at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen ( THM ) in Friedberg and, thanks to this question, has been co-founder of a start-up since the summer. But instead of measuring sporting performance, it is intended to give people with dementia more freedom: Clever Sole.

THM President Prof. Dr. Matthias Willems (left) and Friedberg's mayor Kjetil Dahlhaus proudly point to the THM traffic light man on the B275 in Hanauer Straße

Numerous people arrive at Friedberg train station every day, commuters, day tourists and, above all, students from the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen ( THM ). From here it is only a few minutes walk to the campus. On the way, the traffic lights on Hanauer Straße (B275) are particularly noticeable, as THM traffic light men now show the way.

Friedberg is a sought-after educational location and the THM Mittelhessen is one of the district town's flagships. The city, university and students are closely linked to each other, but want to significantly expand their collaboration. This is what the THM traffic light men in robot design now stand for.

Bridge closures have been a concern for the German public for years. In order to avoid unforeseen closures, Deutsche Bahn was the first infrastructure provider to issue guidelines for the inspection and treatment of railway bridges in 1999. These guidelines are now outdated. For an update, DB relied on the expertise of Prof. Dr. Bertram Kühn left the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen ( THM ).

The two THM professors Andreas Penirschke and Rahamatullah Khondoker with Satjapan Leelatanon, Siriwatchana Kaeophanuek and Chanankorn Jandaeng (from left), representatives of the faculties of engineering and technology and computer science, at the conclusion of the memorandum of understanding at Walailak University. The Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen will cooperate with several Thai universities in teaching and research. This is the result of a journey that Prof. Dr. Rahamatullah Khondoker (Department of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Data Processing) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Penirschke (Department of Information Technology – Electrical Engineering – Mechatronics) took us to various universities in the Southeast Asian country.

Official agreements (Memorandum of Understanding), which primarily concern the exchange of students and teachers between the Thai universities and the THM as part of joint study and research projects, form the basis of future cooperation.

This expands THM 's foreign partner network to include three of Thailand's most renowned universities: the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) located in the capital Bangkok, Walailak University (WU) in the south and Chiang Mai University (CMU) in the north of the country.

At the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Understanding at WU, the Computer Sciences and Computer Engineering departments there were particularly interested in exchanging ideas with THM . The CMU also offers very good conditions for cooperation with its departments of Computer Sciences and Electrical Engineering. There, as well as at the AIT, the two THM professors also discussed the modalities of an international double degree with their respective interlocutors.

The partnership is intended to enable Thai students, for example, to complete part of their academic training at the THM in Friedberg in the completely English-language engineering master's programme in Control, Computer and Communication Engineering.

Through this initiative THM is continuing its commitment to cooperation with Asian universities. Last year it began exchanges with universities in Bangladesh and India - financially supported by the EU and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Young talent is the future of universities. Therefore, students should be given the best possible support when choosing a course of study to give them a good start. The Department of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Computer Science (MNI) at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen ( THM ) and the Wilhelm-von-Oranien-Schule (WvO) are entering into a cooperation.

Prof. Dr. Katja Specht, THM Vice President for Studies and Teaching, and the deputy headmaster Andrea Stuhler were on site for the signing. “A cooperation agreement is very important. Creating connections is so important. “We want to expand on our goals and convey them to the world,” said Specht. Stuhler explained: “I have been looking after the A-levels students for a long time, which is another reason why this is so important to me.”
