To help you prepare for your degree course, Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen – along with Justus-Liebig University – offers a range of foreign language courses. For further information, please see the website for language course offerings.
Intensive German courses
Intensive courses are offered at six different levels. After six successive stages, beginners (level A1) can reach the DSH/TestDaF test level in one year (level C1.2). Passing the DSH (German Language Test for Admission to University) or TestDaF (Test of German as a Foreign Language) is a prerequisite for studying a degree taught in German. These courses are primarily aimed at applicants, but are also suitable for exchange students, visiting academics and their family members. You can join the course at any level. At the beginning of the course you will be tested so that your proficiency level can be determined.

International summer course
The International Summer Course is held every September. During the four-week language course (approx. 95 hours of teaching), participants receive intensive training in grammar, cultural studies, writing texts and communication. Student mentors offer participants guidance during the course. This means participants not only learn about our universities, but also about the town and surrounding area. Field trips to Frankfurt and Heidelberg, for example, are also organised as part of the course. We also offer workshops on the following topics: Films, newspapers, theatre, dance and cooking. Participants receive a certificate confirming their participation and detailing the ECTS points earned.
Course fees are €630 (for Socrates/Erasmus students or students from one of JLU’s/THM’s partner institutions: €430).
Evening courses for visiting students
German-language courses (4 hours/week, different proficiency levels available) offered alongside our degree courses are open to exchange students (Socrates, Erasmus, ISEP, etc.), visiting academics and their family members. These courses are usually held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. during the semester.
The course is free for exchange students. Visiting academics and their family members pay approx. €100 for the autumn semester and approx. €90 for the spring semester.
Project days
International students and employees can take part in day courses on two Saturdays in the semester. These courses focus on area studies, academic writing and conversation. Each project day lasts six hours and costs approx. €10.
