Who can participate in the university preparation programme?
You must meet these requirements to participate in our study preparation programme:
- University access in the country of school leaving certificate, e.g. access to a preparatory college (if subject-specific, in a technical field - here you can check yourself what type of university entrance qualification you have)
- German language skills at least at level B1
You do not take an entrance exam.
You can prove your German language skills with the following certificates:
- Goethe-Zertifikat B1
- ÖSD Certificate B1
- TELC German B1
- German Language Diploma of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs, Level I - DSD I or DSD I PRO
- B1 from Justus Liebig University Giessen after passing the exam
- UNIcert I
How can I apply?
You must for the "Study Preparation Program (PS)" at THM uni-assist and upload the following documents (with translations) digitally to the uni-assist portal:
- School leaving certificate (e.g. A-Levels, High School Diploma, Baccalaureate, Gaokao etc.)
- Transcripts of your school leaving certificate (e.g. A-levels , final exams or last school year)
- (if available) Proof of studies (university entrance examination, certificate of enrollment, transcript of records, degree certificate, diploma) – indicating the field of study/programme and the courses taken
- Proof of German language skills
- Passport/proof of residence
Application deadline:
April 1st to July 15th for the winter semester;
October 1st to January 15th for the summer semester.

Note: The number of places available in the Prepare&Start@THMplus study preparation programme is limited. There is no entitlement to admission to the Prepare&Start@THMplus programme.
How does the university preparation programme work?
The preparatory study programme takes place in Giessen and usually lasts 2 semesters.
In the first semester you will attend a German course up to level C1 as well as specialist courses in the areas of mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science.
In the second semester, you will attend specialized courses in your chosen degree programme.
After successfully completing the preparatory programme, you will begin your degree studies at THM. You do not need to reapply.

Why should I choose the university preparation programme?
The study preparation programme offers the following advantages:
- Targeted preparation for studies at THM
- Individual guidance and support from student mentors and university staff
- Participation in courses in the desired degree programme during the preparatory phase of studies (credits can be recognized towards the degree programme)
- Early integration into student life at THM through contact with other students
- Enrollment at THM (student ID card)
- Student access to university infrastructure, e.g. cafeteria, library, THM fitness studio, THMcounselling centers, etc.
- Semester ticket, which allows you to travel free of charge on public transport throughout the RMV and NVV area

How much do I have to pay?
Programme fee: 990 EUR per semester including course and examination fees (1980 EUR total)
Semester fee: approx. EUR 357.10 per semester
Living expenses: EUR 992 per month as proof of financial resources for the visa or residence permit
