Internships abroad

Enhance your application-oriented studies on an international stage with an internship at a foreign company or university/research institution.

An internship abroad allows you to experience local life more authentically, gain valuable experience in working in multicultural teams, and improve your negotiation skills with international partners.

We recommend placements of at least 10, ideally 12 weeks , to ensure the practical phase is also beneficial for the company. Please consult with your internship coordinator in the Department .

How can I complete an internship abroad?

Planning an internship abroad requires careful planning and initiative. Therefore, it's essential to start organizing early. Make sure you receive adequate compensation (e.g., at least minimum wage), as you will likely be working in the commercial sector. However, compensation is uncommon for internships in non-profit organizations. When planning an internship abroad, you should research the following topics:

  • Job search
  • Internship funding
  • Insurance
  • Recognition of studies
  • Visa and, if applicable, work permit
  • Accommodation
  • Foreign language requirements (internship language)
