The state of Hesse maintains partnerships with the regions of Massachusetts (USA), Wisconsin (USA), and Queensland (Australia). Students from Hesse benefit from these relationships through the waiver of tuition fees (approximately $10,000-$20,000) at foreign universities.

Due to the sometimes high costs of language certificates, we are THM provisionally accepting the DAAD language certificate Language Center THM . Please register for a test date early to ensure you receive the certificate by the deadline.
If you are accepted into the program, you MUST submit a language certificate in accordance with the application documents of the host university.

- Excellent academic performance – compared to your fellow students,
- Good English skills,
- Excellent letters of motivation and recommendation
- Suitability as a Hesse Student Ambassador
- At least 3 semesters of study (Bachelor's) or 2 semesters of study (Master's) must have been completed by the time of departure

International undergraduate students must take the following into account when planning: The stay abroad must not exceed 6 months and you must ensure before leaving Germany that your residence permit is valid at least until your return!
What is being funded?
You pay no tuition fees!
Additional costs, such as travel, accommodation and insurance expenses, must either be borne by you or you can apply for a Fulbright Commission, PROMOSor HAW. Internationalscholarship and/or apply for federal student aid for studies abroad.
Master's students can apply for the Fulbright Germany scholarship at the same time as they apply for the Hessian State Partnership Program . Please indicate this in your application and note the additional application documents.
What will be expected of me in return?
If you are selected for the program, you will travel abroad as a "Hessen Student Ambassador." You will be familiar with the state of Hesse, the THM university system, and the opportunities available to students. You will inspire your fellow students to study with us!

- Program Application Form - Application form (see HMWK homepage) with selection of three preferred universities of the UMAS including study program (module selection coordinated with Departmental International Coordinator of your Department )
- Statement of Purpose - A compelling letter of motivation
- CV - tabular resume
- Academic transcript - current English-language academic record including overall grade (Master's students should also submit their Bachelor's degree transcript)
- Letter of Recommendation - Letter of recommendation from a PhD-holding university professor in English
- Proof of English language proficiency, not older than 2 years - A DAAD language certificate (minimum B2 level) is sufficient until the deadline of November 15th - apply early due to waiting times! A TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo test must be submitted after program acceptance, before applying to the host university in January/February
- Copy of passport
- GDPR: Consent to the processing of personal data
- Possibly further documents (if you are also applying for a Fulbright scholarship)
- International students whose language of study at THM is not German: German language certificate (level B2)

- Completed 3rd semester of study upon departure for Bachelor students or 2nd semester of study for Master students.
What is being funded?
There are no tuition fees at universities in Queensland.
Additional costs, such as travel, accommodation and insurance expenses, must either be borne by you or you can apply for a PROMOSor HAW. Internationalscholarship or apply for BAföG (German Federal Training Assistance Act) for studies abroad.
