
PROMOS provides financial support to students and doctoral candidates at THM during their stays abroad.
Study, internship, and language stays worldwide are supported with a partial scholarship to cover living expenses and, if applicable, a portion of tuition fees. Travel expenses within Europe are generally not covered by THM . Students with disabilities or chronic illnesses may be eligible for special funding.
Who can apply?
All students and doctoral candidates enrolled at THM or in cooperative Degree Courses who aim to obtain a degree are eligible to apply.
International undergraduate students must take the following into account when planning: The stay abroad must not exceed 6 months and you must before leaving Germany that your residence permit is valid at least until your return!
What is being funded?
Funding measures
Funding period: lies within one calendar year (January 1st - December 31st).
Study and research scholarships (1 to 6 months)
: Both short-term scholarships (e.g., for theses) and scholarships of up to one semester for study abroad programs are eligible for funding. For study abroad programs of one semester, PROMOS funding is limited to 4 months.
Internships (6 weeks to 6 months)
can be funded with the aforementioned scholarship rates and/or travel allowances.
Due to overlaps with the ERASMUS+ traineeship program, internships in EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Turkey can only be funded if you have already received funding through the ERASMUS traineeship program.
Language courses (3 weeks to 6 months):
Language courses at universities abroad can be funded worldwide. English language courses are only funded if they are specialized language courses. Furthermore, courses in commonly spoken languages are only funded if advanced knowledge is already present.
Specialized courses (up to 6 weeks, e.g. Summer Schools):
Participation in specialized courses offered by universities or scientific organizations abroad can be funded worldwide.

How do I apply?
Application period:
- For funding in the second half of the year (winter semester 30.06. – 31.12.): 01 April - 31 May
- For funding in the first half of the year (summer semester 01.01. – 30.06.): 01 October - 30 November
Required documents
- Promos Checklist (signed by you and the Departmental International Coordinatorof your Departments)
- A tabular CV (in German or English) including information on secondary employment, social engagement and previous stays abroad.
- Letter of motivation or description of the study abroad project (German or English, at least 1 page): Why you have decided to undertake the planned stay abroad, what goals you are pursuing, how the stay is integrated into your course of study, how you are preparing/have prepared for the stay (e.g. linguistically or academically).
- Certificate of enrollment
- Current grade overview with (self-calculated, weighted) average grade
- current language certificate , e.g. DAAD language certificate (can be submitted at the THM, registration required)
- For study abroad: Learning Agreement/study plan (see under "downloads") and confirmation of acceptance from the host university
- For internships abroad: Certificate of recognition from the Department, (informal) internship and clear information on remuneration.
- For theses/dissertations that are neither carried out at a university nor at a company: timetable for carrying out the project abroad, confirmation from the Department that the project is fully supported.
- Certificate in Intercultural Training: After successful acceptance into the program, attendance at a preparatory intercultural training course is mandatory.
- Students without German citizenship: Copy of passport or copy of residence permit
- If applicable, an application for special funding for students with disabilities or chronic illnesses (support is available from BliZ): can be submitted later.
Please submit all documents electronically via SoleMove by the deadline.
Incomplete or late applications cannot be considered! There is no legal entitlement to funding!
Instructions for applying to SoleMove
- Open the SoleMove
- Select Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen University of Applied Sciences [THM] from

- Leave the login method set to THM and click Login

- Log in with your THMlogin details

- Click on + Create new application

- Choose at Mobility type
- S - for studies
- P - for internship
- or C - for the combination of studies and internship
- For Application period, select the semester and the program you wish to apply for.

- Fill out the form under Personal data
- Under Exchange study information , use Add new institution/enterprise (as freemover) to add the university/company you wish to apply to.

- Enter the information about your current studies in the Current studiesform.
- Upload the required documents under Enclosures
- Once you have uploaded all the necessary documents and information, you can submit your application by clicking "Send application" under "Check and send application".
What are the selection criteria?
The following criteria are included in the evaluation:
- Quality and persuasiveness of the letter of motivation
- Average grade
- Study progress
- Language skills in the target language
- social commitment
Selection is made by a selection committee after review of the formal criteria. The selection committee at THM decides on the duration and amount of funding and whether a travel allowance will be granted. You can expect to receive a decision approximately one month after the application deadline.
