As a rule, it is necessary to apply for an internship yourself - your initiative is decisive here!
In order to be successful in your internship search, you should first specify your priorities. Think about it, in which area you want to work and in which language you would like to do the internship. If you have defined this for yourself, please consider when you would like to carry out your desired internship. This is particularly relevant if you wish to apply for a monthly grant.
Especially with internship projects overseas, think about the application lead times. Some internship programmes are only advertised once a year, for certain scholarships you have to apply 9-12 months in advance. That PROMOS The THM advertises the programme twice a year, find out more in good time. A promotion by ERASMUS+ Internships, on the other hand, can be applied for at least 4 weeks before the start of the internship.

insurance
Before you start your stay abroad, you must clarify whether and to what extent you are insured. The Health, accident and personal liability insurance benefits must be taken into account..
Health insurance
With the European Health Insurance Card, the national health insurance generally also offers basic insurance cover for a stay in another EU country. However, the coverage provided by the European Health Insurance Card or private insurance may be insufficient, especially if repatriation or special medical procedures are needed. For such cases, supplementary private insurance may be useful .
Accident and liability insurance
As a THMstudent, you have statutory accident insurance during your studies. In addition, the Studentenwerk Gießen has taken out private accident insurance and liability insurance for damage that occurs in connection with your studies.
Please find out from the Studentenwerk yourself whether you will continue to be insured during your stay abroad. Contact and more information can be obtained from Student Union Giessen.
Information on internships abroad with ERASMUS+
Participation in the Erasmus programme includes no insurance coverage. The group insurance of the German Academic Exchange Service makes sense in this case. It includes health, accident and personal liability insurance. For more information on group insurance, visit the website DAAD's
Mandatory for an internship abroad:
- Internationally valid Health insurance (KV) (incl. medically necessary return transport and repatriation costs in the event of death)
- Only students who have statutory student insurance and who are doing a paid voluntary internship abroad must temporarily deregister in Germany and take out local health insurance in the destination country
- In addition to the KV: International health insurance cover for pandemic cases
- liability insurance: Liability insurance covers damage caused by the participant during the stay abroad (regardless of whether the participant is at work or not). Different liability regulations apply in the different countries participating in transnational learning mobility for internships. Interns therefore run the risk of not being covered. Annex I shows whether this protection is provided by the reception facility. If the national regulations of the host country do not provide for such protection, it cannot be demanded by the reception facility.
- accident insurance: This insurance covers damage suffered by employees as a result of accidents at work. In many countries, employees are insured for accidents at work. However, the extent to which transnational trainees are covered by the same insurance may differ across countries participating in transnational learning mobility programmemes. Annex I for Traineeship shows whether this protection is assumed by the receiving institution. If the receiving institution does not provide such protection (which cannot be requested unless required by the national regulations of the host country), the programme participant must take out insurance cover on his own initiative.
