With PROMOS, THM students and doctoral candidates can receive financial support during their stays abroad.
Study, practice and language stays worldwide are funded with a partial grant to cover the costs of stay and, if necessary, proportionate tuition fees. Travel expenses within Europe are generally not funded at the THM . Students with disabilities or chronic illnesses may receive special funding.
Who can apply?
All students and doctoral candidates who are enrolled at the THM or in cooperative Degree Courses and who aim to achieve a degree can apply.
International undergraduate students must be considered when planning: The stay abroad must not exceed 6 months and you must before departure from Germany make sure that your residence permit is valid at least until you re-enter the country!
What is funded?

Funding period: is within a calendar year 01.01. - 31.12
Study and research grants (1 to 6 months)
Both short-term scholarships (e.g. for theses) and scholarships of up to one semester for study visits can be funded. For study visits of one semester, the PROMOS funding is limited to 4 months.
Internships (6 weeks to 6 months)
Internships can be funded with the scholarship rates and/or travel allowances mentioned.
Due to overlaps with the ERASMUS+ internship programme, internships in EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Turkey can only be funded if you have already received funding from an ERASMUS internship.
Language courses (3 weeks to 6 months)
Language courses at universities abroad can be funded worldwide. Language courses in English are only funded if it is a technical language course. In addition, courses in commonly spoken languages are only funded if advanced knowledge is available.
Specialist courses (up to 6 weeks, e.g. summer schools)
Participation in specialist courses offered by universities or scientific organizations abroad can be funded worldwide.
How do I apply?
Application period:
- for funding in the 2nd half of the year (winter June 30th - December 31st): April 1st - July 31st
- for funding in the 1st half of the year (SoSe 01.01. - 30.06.): October - 30 November
Required Documents
- Checklist promos (signed by you and the foreign representative of your department)
- Tabular CV (German or English) including information on secondary employment, social commitment and previous stays abroad
- Motivation letter or description of the project abroad (German or English, at least 1 page): why you decided to go abroad, what goals you are pursuing, how the stay is integrated into your course of study, how you are preparing for the stay have (e.g. linguistically or professionally).

- current overview of grades (Self-calculated, weighted) average grade
- Current language certificate eg DAAD language certificate (can be left at the Language Center of the THM , registration)
- When studying abroad: Learning Agreement/Curriculum (see under "downloads") and Confirmation of acceptance from the host university
- For internships abroad: Recognition certificate from the department, (informal) internship confirmation and distinct Information on remuneration
- In the case of dissertations/study work that is not being carried out at a university or a company: schedule for carrying out the project abroad, confirmation from the department that the project will be supported without restrictions.
- Intercultural training certificate: After successful acceptance into the programme, attendance at a preparatory intercultural training course is obligatory.
- Students without German citizenship: Passport copy or Copy of residence permit

Incomplete or late applications cannot be considered! There is no legal entitlement to funding!

- Leave the login method on THM and click Log in
- Sign in with your THM credentials
- click on + Create new application
- Choose at Mobility type
- S - for study
- P - for internship
- or C - for the combination of study and internship
- For Application period select the semester and programme you wish to apply for.

What are the selection criteria?
The following criteria are included in the evaluation:
- Quality and validity of the letter of motivation
- average grade
- study progress
- Language skills in the target language
- social commitment
The selection is made after the formal criteria have been checked by a selection committee. The selection committee at the THM decides on the duration and amount of funding and whether a travel allowance is granted. You can expect an acceptance or rejection about one month after the end of the application period.
