Program objective

The program aims to support students at universities of applied sciences (HAW/FH) in completing internships abroad, thereby enabling them to gain practical experience in an international context. These stays abroad also offer the opportunity to gain intercultural experience and acquire or improve foreign language skills. In this way, the program helps to qualify students for the internationally oriented job market. Applications from non-German citizens are possible under certain conditions.

What is being funded?

Internships in the private and public sectors are eligible for funding. The internship must be relevant to the student's studies and fit into their individual educational path. Simultaneous funding through Erasmus or PROMOS and HAW.International is not permitted. This also applies to so-called zero-grant placements with regard to Erasmus.

Duration of funding

Minimum 2 months, maximum 6 months

Scholarship benefits

The scholarship includes the following benefits:

  • a monthly stipend rate, which varies depending on the host country,
  • a travel allowance, the amount of which varies depending on the host country,
  • Services for health, accident and personal liability insurance,
  • a grant towards a language course accompanying the scholarship (national language or language of instruction/work): Further information

Internship compensation exceeding the equivalent of €450 per month will be deducted from the scholarship rate.
Furthermore, under certain conditions, family benefits for accompanying spouses or partners and children can be granted upon application: More information.
In the case of a disability or chronic illness: A subsidy for additional expenses incurred abroad that are not covered by third parties is available: More information
