If certain conditions are met, students may be granted permission to study part-time in accordance with Section 9 of the THMenrollment regulations.

Applications can be submitted directly via the e-campus under the menu item Service - Applications - Other Applications . If you no longer have access to the e-campus, please contact the InfoCenter.

Reasons for studying part-time:

  1. Employment:
Employment subject to social security contributions with a minimum of 14 and a maximum of 28 hours of regular weekly working time as the norm.
  2. Education:
Education of a child within the meaning of Section 25 Paragraph 5 of the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) up to the age of ten.
  3. Care:
Documented care provided by close relatives with assignment to a care level according to § 15 para. 1 SGB XI.
  4. Disability or chronic illness that extends the study period
    (full-time study not possible)

However, not every student who meets these requirements can actually complete a part-time course of study, as the group of eligible persons is limited.

Exclusion criteria for part-time studies:

  • Students who are enrolled in another degree program ( dual degree) cannot complete part-time studies.
  • Part-time studies can only be started or continued within the standard period of study
  • Part-time studies can be completed up to a maximum twice the standard period of study
  • In a degree programme with restricted admission, part-time study can only be approved if there is no admission restriction for the requested semester (usually within the standard period of study)
  • Part-time study according to § 9 THMenrollment regulations is only possible if the examination regulations of the chosen course of study do not exclude it or if the provisions of the examination regulations do not necessarily preclude part-time study
  • Part-time studies cannot be applied for after a semester has been completed.

Recognition of part-time studies:

  • Semesters in part-time studies are counted as half a subject semester and as a full university semester.
  • In part-time studies, half of the credit points or coursework required in the full-time programme can be completed. If this limit is exceeded, the semester is counted as a full semester.
  • If the examination regulations of the chosen course of study stipulate deadlines for the initial submission of an examination performance, these deadlines will be extended accordingly.
