Do you already hold a bachelor's degree in biotechnology, biopharmaceutical technology, or a related science and engineering field and would like to deepen your knowledge? Do you want to not only understand how biotechnological processes work, but also analyze, optimize, and further develop them?
The Master's program in Biotechnology/Biopharmaceutical Technology offers the opportunity to specifically expand your professional profile. You will deepen your knowledge at the interface of natural sciences, engineering, and pharmacy, and explore current issues in modern biotechnology. Whether biopharmaceutical production, cell culture technology, bioprocess engineering, process analytics, bioanalytics, or modern data-driven methods – the Master's program opens up diverse opportunities to pursue your interests and prepare you for demanding roles in research, development, and industry.
Studies
Study content
The Master's program builds on the scientific and engineering fundamentals acquired in the Bachelor's program and takes these into greater technical and scientific depth.
During their studies, students engage with modern methods and issues in biotechnology and biopharmaceutical technology. This includes, for example, the design of bioprocess engineering processes and facilities, cell culture techniques, biodata analysis, as well as pharmaceutical-technological topics, clinical trial design, and drug regulation. Depending on individual interests, the program can be tailored to suit individual needs through a range of elective and specialization options.
A particular focus is placed on linking theory, practical application, and scientific work. You will learn to independently plan experiments and investigations, to use modern methods effectively, to evaluate data, and to critically assess scientific results. The aim is no longer simply to apply familiar methods, but to independently analyze complex biotechnological questions and develop solution strategies.
Current developments in biotechnology are taken into account, as are requirements from research and industrial practice. This allows you to tailor your knowledge specifically to future tasks in a dynamic and interdisciplinary professional field.

Career prospects
Perspectives
With a Master's degree in Biotechnology/Biopharmaceutical Technology, you have diverse career prospects open to you in a future-oriented and interdisciplinary field.
The knowledge acquired during the course of study can be applied, for example, in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, chemical, and diagnostic industries, in research institutions, at service providers, or in plant engineering companies. Furthermore, additional career opportunities arise in interface functions between research and development and production, as well as environmental protection and management.
Graduates are particularly qualified for tasks that combine scientific understanding with technological know-how – for example, in the development and optimization of biotechnological or pharmaceutical production processes, the characterization of biological systems, or the development of new analytical methods.
The Master's degree also opens up the possibility of further scientific development and subsequently pursuing a doctorate.
The Master's program thus offers you various paths: You can apply your knowledge directly in demanding specialist and development tasks in industry or pursue a scientific career.
You decide for yourself where your path leads – into research, into industry or to the interface of both worlds.
