Digital business, the development of new digital activities, and the digitization of existing structures have significant and cross-functional effects on companies of all sizes and sectors, as well as on public and non-profit institutions. The economy of Central Hesse, and indeed Germany as a whole, is undergoing a sustainable transformation process that offers companies diverse opportunities in global competition, but also entails certain risks.
Digital technologies and concepts enable new applications, products, and services. This entails the establishment of new or the further development of existing processes and organizational structures, strategies, and business models. At the same time, the requirements for each organization vary considerably due to the individual, often complex and dynamic market situation – for example, with regard to existing structures, legal specifications, customer needs, and competition. Knowledge about viable design options in digital business and the competence to properly prioritize and implement necessary steps are often insufficient.
The solution to this operational challenge is the added value and unique selling point of our Master's program in Digital Business: Graduates possess the necessary holistic understanding of operational processes and interrelationships combined with the required knowledge of digital concepts and systems, as well as the competence to evaluate and classify current digital developments.

Student testimonials
Pascal Bergmann is in his third semester of Digital Business (as of November 2021) and talks about his choice of studies.
I chose this course of study at the time to broaden my horizons in the field of digital business after completing my bachelor's degree in business administration.
After completing the two theory semesters, I am convinced that the Master's program in Digital Business has been very beneficial to me.
Of course, one can delve deeper into certain areas of the digital field through problem-based, on-the-job learning. THM , on the other hand, prescribes a curriculum that covers a broad spectrum of areas. Naturally, this means that some topics are not explored in great depth. However, I am convinced that this is precisely what has provided me with a solid foundation for specializing in further areas in the future.
My studies have opened up new methods for improving business processes, products, and business models. Furthermore, subjects like data protection and artificial intelligence have given me a better understanding of how the world works and what makes successful companies. So, professionally speaking, I have benefited greatly.
Although the degree program was 100% online [due to the pandemic], the social aspect wasn't neglected for me. For a large number of subjects, the assessment was completed as project work in teams of three to six. In my experience, flexibility was highly valued here, very much in keeping with the spirit of the times. The professors adapted to the students' wishes, and we were often able to find solutions together – for example, regarding teaching methods and scheduling. However, this flexibility also had to be demonstrated by me and my fellow students, as we had classes and exams at the beginning and end of the semester break.
Personally, I recommend this degree program to those seeking to broaden their horizons without delving too deeply into specific technical areas. The curriculum allowed me to explore many fascinating topics that I would otherwise have missed.

Alumni testimonials

Jannis Tsirtsidis studied Digital Business at THM and successfully completed his studies with a Master of Science (M.Sc.).
The combination of varied modules and group work made learning and working very relaxed.
I also enjoyed the introductions to various programs (e.g. Power BI, Python, SQL, SAP) and the module "Digital Business Models", which inspired my master's thesis on the topic of "digital ecosystems".
The most rewarding experience was the successful final presentation of the self-created Webseite in the "E-Commerce and Digital Marketing" module.
The diversity of the various modules and regular guest lectures from different industries clearly demonstrated the multifaceted nature of digitalization in businesses.
The program creates a link between IT and business that is currently underrepresented but will gain in importance with increasing digitalization.
As an early bird, I completed my studies in March 2022. In the future, I plan to work either in the field of business intelligence or in consulting with a focus on digital transformation
Practical phase
Laura D'Andrea is in her third semester of Digital Business (as of summer semester 2022) and talks about her practical phase.
Company: Merz Consumer Care GmbH
Area: Online Marketing and Digital Transformation
The particular challenge lies in multitasking. However, this also leads to valuable learning experiences and provides a comprehensive overview of various fields.
"My responsibilities include: planning, strategy development and implementation of advertising measures; creating online reports and optimizing online marketing measures; creating and managing online marketing campaigns; further developing the advertising presence, social media management and SEO.".
The particular challenge lies in multitasking. However, this also leads to valuable learning experiences and provides a comprehensive overview of various fields.
My tip: Set clear goals for your internship right from the start to meet your own expectations and those of your supervisor. For example, you could decide on the first day which projects you need help with. Another tip: Be bold! If you want to take charge of a project, communicate this; the team will certainly appreciate your commitment!
Study abroad semester
Arnd Bils
Spain: University of Valencia (WS 2021/2022)
“For me, a semester abroad was a very important part of my studies. Since I already had some knowledge of Spanish, Spain was the obvious choice. (…)
I arrived in September, and the semester started in the middle of the month. It was therefore good to be there a little earlier to familiarize myself with the culture and get to know life here. Since Valencia has the most Erasmus students in Europe, it was also easy to meet lots of people here.”
Generally speaking Spanish is helpful. However, there are also affordable language courses available where you can improve or learn Spanish effectively.
(...) Organized excursions are offered by the numerous Erasmus organizations, providing a great opportunity to meet new people. These organizations also organize parties almost every evening, so there's plenty of opportunity for socializing. It's also worth noting that going out is generally much cheaper than in Germany, making it a more frequent option.
In general, I can only recommend a semester abroad to everyone, but I especially recommend Valencia as a city. It's particularly advisable during the winter semester to escape the German temperatures. I met so many interesting people I might otherwise never have encountered, and Spanish culture is very welcoming to international students. Plus, you have the opportunity to live by the sea for half a year – what more could you ask for?
All in all, my semester abroad was one of the best times of my studies and I would always recommend it, especially the city of Valencia.”
