Increasing the efficiency of existing energy technologies and developing new ones are essential pillars of a future-oriented energy supply. Sector coupling, environmental compatibility, and sustainability play a central role in this.
Sound knowledge of existing and future technologies, the ability to analyze, model and simulate, as well as interdisciplinary thinking and action are among the essential competencies of prospective energy engineers.
In the Master's program, students learn the systems engineering analysis of complex energy systems, demand-oriented development, and the methodological approach for efficient plant operation. The comprehensive training includes the acquisition of technological knowledge, system modeling and simulation, as well as project-related process planning and economic analysis.
Participation in research projects allows scientific knowledge to be deepened in practice.
Studies
Study content
The Master's program builds consecutively on a completed professionally qualifying Bachelor's degree (minimum 7 semesters or 210 credit points (CrP) in the field of mechanical engineering or energy technology or a comparable engineering degree; for 6-semester Degree Courses , the program is possible after additional proof of prior knowledge corresponding to 210 CrP).
The degree program can be studied with or without a specialization.
It is possible to specialize in the following areas:
- Thermal Energy Technology (EST)
- Building energy (GE)
- Energy Industry (EWI)
- Electrical Power Engineering (EET)
Study program without a specialization
The following is a list of the courses offered in the degree program. The numbers indicate the weekly contact hours (SWS) or the credit points you will receive for successful completion of the course.
In the first two semesters, the modules "Mathematical Methods" and "General Process Simulation" from the Electivebe flexibly selected
The completion of the Master's thesis (usually in a company) and the defense of this work in the final scientific colloquium mark the end of the studies.

Career prospects
Perspectives
There is a great need for scientifically trained specialists in the entire field of energy supply and end-use. This applies to energy companies, manufacturers of energy technology components and systems, as well as to companies that plan and efficiently operate future-oriented supply infrastructures and building services systems.
The Master's program opens the way to a scientific career as well as to taking on management positions, e.g. in various areas of energy and heat technology companies or operators of technical (supply) infrastructures.
Diverse research activities at the institutes within our Department enable student participation in current research projects (e.g., as research assistants) and ensure the continuous integration of current topics and methods into teaching. Furthermore, our Department 's extensive network opens many avenues for conducting interesting project and master's theses in industry.
Following the Master's degree, there is the possibility of pursuing a scientific career with the goal of obtaining a doctorate at THM via the Research Campus of Central Hessen .
